I honestly think Hal's point goes a little deeper than just what a pilot is worth to the airlines. the retention update brief put out earlier claimed "But lure of higher pay/greater stability in civilian job increasingly outweighing patriotism for many" but that is dead wrong: it assumes that military service is the only way to contribute to the nation....Much more valuable than clicking through NKO GMT training at the least.

Can't say I know anyone who has joined an airline to serve their country though, at least here. I've known plenty of folks, including more than a few pilots, who have continued to serve past their commitment because they want to keep serving their country. And after 2 hours per annum of clicking through the annual GMT requirements that is exactly what they get to do.

Well.. Now you know one that continues to serve their country as an Airline Pilot. Ever heard of CRAF?

I don't know about y'all, but that extra 350 a month is DEFINITELY keeping me in!

Wait, isn't flight pay supposed to be an incentive compensation for risk, and decidedly NOT a retention tool?? Oh, I guess the Admirals never got that memo.

Obviously you're not a patriot.

Just curious as some people have seen a bump, and other that are still “on track” haven’t. Curious how this one will be explained.

Explained? The policy and eligibility requirements have been put out. Are you suggesting that eligible people won’t get paid?

I know of a couple post DH’s that have not been on a CO screen board yet and their results for O5 are not out yet and they did not get a raise in flight pay. They left their DHs tours with EPs, and have done all of the requirements for the CO screen board. So.... if they are still “on track” why haven’t they received the higher pay?

If they’re eligible, then they’ll get it sorted out and get paid. I’ve had various pay issues over the years with PSD/DFAS. All have eventually been resolved to my satisfaction.

They way I interpreted the message was that the raise only applies to current operational DHs, COs, and major commands such as CAGs, which means a guy in between DH and CO isn't going to see the increase.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't put it past the Navy to limit this solely to "butts in fleet seats".

I think the message was written to be purposefully vague. It also talks about attracting and retaining qualified officers. If they pull the higher flight pays between tours, especially when guys are flying, that just another kick in the balls. If they really want to “attract and retain” guys and gals, they really need to stop making these stupid decisions. They are stepping over a $100 bill to pick up a penny.
