Sure, why not? They already have all the fun anyways, why not have them take our primary bread and butter mission? In all seriousness, I think an air launched Mk 48 would be awesome.

Edit: just found out they weigh roughly 3,700 lbs.
Since this thread has devolved WAY in to the realm of the good idea fairy; that’s smaller than some the bombs that were used in WW2 (tallboys, a-bombs). Strap a couple to some B-52s. Have them follow the P-8s around and drop on top.

Not saying it’s impossible, but that’s some serious coordination right there. I’m thinking modifying the P-8 for a single centerline mount.

Caution: landing gear retraction with external stores on the centerline if the AP-8B may cause damage to the landing gear system and interfere with stores separation from airframe.

The first Super Blue is already here at Cecil. It’s a Lot 21, the fourth production E model. The second should be here next month, also another Lot 21. They are going through PMI and then the Blues mod, minus the paint job, before they go up to Pax (mid 2019) for a year to develope the new show. The other Rhinos slated to go to the Blues are all low lot and LRIP Supers with realitively low hours. The E’s have been sitting on the sea wall at North Island for years (tons of corrosion). The first 2 F’s have a shit ton of time on them, around 5000 hours.

How do they develop the new show? Is that test guys, or blues or both?

The CO from last years team and last years lead solo are developing the show now up at Pax. First phase is them using the Pax River sims as they are more realistic in handling characteristics than the average sims the fleet uses. They will be doing that until the first two jets are ready, then they will transition what they have been doing in the sims to the jets. The test guys will also fly the jets to check the inverted fuel pumps. Kinda a waste as they are the same pumps they currently use. But hey, the test guys have to do their thing as well.

Hang it centerline. It can’t be any worse drag/weightwise than some other things I’ve seen hung off the belly of an Orion.

Also, way mo lethal than a 46 or 50! If you need more torps, launch the ready!
