No Cat Is will ever go through -101. Once -125 stands up it will be the sole Navy F-35 FRS.

Third option: 101 gets some of the CAT 1s, who are not the initial ones.

Ok so is it A, B, C?

As of now 101 will get the initial ones. Until then they will still have CAT Others going to various places (125, pax, china lake, etc.). 125 will transition 147 for their first round of STUDs.

So confusing... VFA-101 moves from Eglin to Oceana and now to Lemoore while VFA-125 stands up at Lemoore at the same time?

Oops. Apparently only I did -- based on an old press release announcing that 101 was visiting (not moving to) Oceana to show off the new aircraft.

Never mind...

So there will be two FRS F-35C VFAs at Lemoore? And then ultimately one will move to Oceana?

My understanding is that 101 will disestablish again and that there are no plans for F-35s to come to Oceana.

Again, who said anything about Oceana? The above posting by Armada is correct.

Got it -- No F-35C in Oceana. I had an old note to myself that laid out a plan for 7 F-35C VFA at Lemoore and 6 at Oceana. The source of that bad gouge escapes me now, though I think it predates the USMC plan to chip in 4 F-35C VMFA.

Not really sure what they expect to get out of a cost review, though. The AFO replacement can maybe refine requirements, but what makes it expensive is it's comms and connectivity and survivability requirements. It doesn't exactly have gold-plated toilets. F-35 costs are already coming down as the production process matures. It's not like they'll just agree to take less money for the work - government contracts don't work like that. If you got what you ordered, you're obliged to pay what you agreed to pay. This isn't like stiffing a plumber; Boeing and L-M have their own lawyers and the USG wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on.
