Well, for better or worse my package has been submitted. It is now a waiting game...but my recruiter also said that they moved the board up by a couple of weeks? Now it is looking like the last week of November/first week of December for the board to convene. Hopefully Santa will leave a Final Select letter under the tree for me. :)

The joy of "rolling boards", they can say "let's do it next week"

Congrats on the selection Mithre and I would like to wish you the best of luck PG. Yes, it is a waiting game, but remember PERSISTENCE is key!

Thanks kurowashi9! I am just waiting. I was told the board convene date got moved up to last week of November (this coming week!) and so I am being cautiously optimistic about hearing back in time for Christmas. Everything is complete--MEPS, NASIS, etc etc etc...Can you help time go faster!? :)

When you get older you will never say anything about making time go faster.

I have a few questions for any CEC officers out there. I just got my commission last month as a DCO and had my first drill this last weekend. I'm trying to learn as fast as I can, but there is so much, it's almost overwhelming. Anyway, I found out that I'm to be assigned to battalion as the A3-alpha. I have no idea what that is. I've been pouring through my Seabee Combat Handbook and NCF 1 and C but it's not helping. What is this position and what will I be expected to do?
Second question, what is this big push to have everyone 3M qualified? I'm told that I need to attend a 4 day evolution where I will get 3M-302, 303,304 305 and 306 qualified. I know 3M is Maintenance and Materials Management, but I have little information beyond that. Is 3M qualified like SCWS? All I can find are PQS books on 3M but no coursework or anything to help me prepare.
My apologies if my questions appear fundamental, but if I don't know, I'm gonna ask.

A3A = Alfa Company Operations Assistant. Alfa Co (yes that's how its typically spelled) is manned by of EOs and CMs who operate and maintain vehicles and heavy equipment for the Battalion. They are typically the lead for horizontal projects. The A3/A3C (Alfa Ops/Chief) track up/down equipment and allocate resources across projects/dets. Not too sure how the Reserves operate but as the A3A your exact job description isn't well defined and will likely depend largely on you (how proactive you are and how competent you're perceived to be). Once you get a better grasp of how Alfa Co and the Bn as a whole operates, you'll start to figure out how you can be useful in your new position.

3M is the preventative maintenance system used Navy-wide and is particularly important for Alfa types. 306 will get you qualed through Dept. Head. Part of the reason all khakis are pushed to be 306 qualified is that even as an ENS, it's not uncommon to lead a det where you're operating independent of the Main Body for an extended period of time. Perhaps more importantly, these quals feed metrics that are tracked at the Regiment level and beyond. If you're really bored, or just want to make your eyes bleed, I think you can find NKO courses for all of the 3M quals.

Oh good sweet Lord above. I think I almost had a heart attack. I pinged my recruiter yesterday asking if there was any idea when the CEC DCO board results of last week would be available. Just now I get back to my desk after about 15 minutes of being away to see this subject line and start of email from my recruiter in my inbox:

"CEC DCO Board results - Good morning PenguinGal, I'm sorry to say that..."

Luckily it was simply a response of "results take about a month or so to come out following a board" as opposed to a "you were not selected". Still, I think it is going to take a few minutes to get my heart beating at its normal pace again!

Boobcheese, (interesting name) thanks for the information. I've been researching and reading and I feel a little more comfortable. I've been in contact with the S7, S3 and just about everyone else and they all have been really helpful.

The DCO boards are historically quite timely for releasing results after the board, I would say if they don't expect them for a while that maybe they are taking their time.

Yeah, it is news like this that just depresses me about my chances. :(

Even beyond that, I feel terrible for all the people currently on the reserve side who are going to get moved around or 'encouraged' to cross rate or leave. This is going to be a nightmare of paperwork!

Any word on this board? My OR never said whether or not it actually convened a couple of weeks ago.

Mea culpa on the original post here.

Anyone have word on when in April the CEC DCO board will meet? Any idea on what sort of numbers they will be taking? Thankfully I'm PQ and have my clearance stuff in the works, but that doesn't ease the stress of awaiting the board and results!
