Yeah, damn good thing it wasn't about race. I mean after all, he WAS conceived from a march that had not happened yet.
Truman is second for having both the highest and lowest poll's regarding popularity (Behind, big surprise, George W. Bush). Notwithstanding, Truman is considered one of the greatest presidents America has ever had (ranked 7 in the last standings in 2005). We'd be lucking for Obama to be like Truman (sort of, not including Korea). And regarding Kennedy, his accomplishments of course include the space race and got the ball rolling in space exploration, creation of the peace corps, etc. In all honesty though Kennedy is one of those presidents who was really popular and ranked as one of the best presidents of all time shortly after his death. Over time though, we have come to recognize him as one of the worst president's we've ever had (the same is true in American History with President Warren G. Harding) Regardless of my ramblings, I only hope the best for President Barack H. Obama and the United States of America!
Lets not forget The Bay of Pigs and as far as the Space Race, right place, right time just like Clinton and the Dot Com bubble. History has been overly kind and forgiving to Kennedy, VN is also considered to be his baby as well. Because of his fathers "slime factor", that in all probability was his ultimate undoing.
You're gonna lump Clinton in with Carter? Oval office BJs aside, he did fairly well for a Dem - good economy, fairly centrist policies (after finding his stride). Compared to Carter's stagflation and hostage crisis, it's apples and oranges IMO. Brett
Toe-to-toe? Not sure how you can say that. They have gone out of their way to avoid that, despite IRan's support for terrorists in Iraq and Lebanon, and their nuclear weapon program.
Not official (expected after Thanksgiving). but there's a flurry of news reports quoting unnamed sources that Gates will stay and Gen. James Jones will be tapped for NSA.
