I get it. I'm out of the forum business, unless someone comments on one of the two threads i started. BTW Mr Renegade One, dare i ask, without getting in trouble, what mishap were you involved in?

For every little old lady in white tennis shoes (who make our Navy go 'round, BTW) that respond to FOIA requests, there's also a lot of people who respond to requests whose job has nothing to do with data collection. ...not everyone who is doing data recall is doing it because "it's their fucking job!"

Actually, I got it over 38 years ago when I was sitting in uniform of the day in a lawn chair under the power lines west of Miramar with a logbook watching every aircraft make the Seawolf Departure from NKX…and that they did or didn't overfly University City. For 4 hours on my watch days, COMFIT and my CO made it pretty clear that it WAS my fucking job.

Wow, that must have been rough. There was a lot of scrutiny there as a student, but the last thing I felt that I needed to worry about was whether I accidentally overflew UTC or something on the SWOLF. As a -4, if you were a motivated stud, it was not uncommon to be wrapped up at nearly 350+ kts in MAX a few hundred feet above Miramar rd just to get aboard on the LAKEE......at least sometime before hitting Julian if you had any dignity :)

I want to learn more about how they're going to recover it. With pictures.
NSC has access to some pretty robust salvage capabilities. When I was the SafetyO at VX-1 we had HX-21 borrow one of our 60Rs and they ended up pickling an ALFS dome in some deep water. We requested salvage and a few weeks later one of the USNS salvage ships showed up and recovered the ALFS. NSC also recovered Bullet 10, the MH-60S the HSC-23 put in to the water off of BHR ~10yrs ago.

Speaking as a former brown shirt, I'd rather you hit something. Trying to loop a chain around a main mount is tough. I just about had my head taken off trying to do it when an F-14 broke it's towbar and lost it's brakes on the Forrestal in Oct. 87, Thankfully it hit one of our helos and came to a stop. Worked out pretty good, one less daily inspection to do.:D
Was it a Red Ripper, or Tomcatter jet?
