Can I get it and how?

I'm currently in A-pool waiting to class up for API and was wondering how you would go about getting this procedure done and if they will even consider you for it at this point? I'm an SNFO and don't want to get the surgery to try and make the switch to pilot. I would like this surgery so I can see without glasses or contacts...novel concept I know.

Anyway, I've heard of some doing it while in A-pool but haven't been able to find any information on how to start the process. I have a follow-up doctor's appointment next week for something entirely unrelated but plan on asking the flight doc about it when I see him.

I asked a couple days ago, and they said its next to impossible to get it once you check into A-pool. The STUCON LTs said there is exactly one person who is waiting on a decision, and its not looking good. Your best bet is to wait until you get to your first squadron, then get it done. Once you're winged, you're worth something to the Navy. Until then, don't expect them to stop the training pipeline for PRK.

PS I'm SNFO also and got it straight from one of the LTs.

Good to know...thanks. I talked to someone today and they said that once you're winged you get pushed to the top of the waiting list. Oh well, glasses til then I suppose.

Yeah, that's the vibe I got too. They'll do PRK for winged folk much easier.

Besides, you get to rock those AWESOME geek glasses for a year or so...enjoy it, I certainly plan to! :D
