Bad to go to MEPS with a hangover? Can it affect bloodwork results?

Sorry if this is a little off-topic...but I'm so paranoid about MEPS.

I'm just headed back home from spending 5 days in Vegas. Needless to say, I've been partying hardcore for the last 4 nights...and now I'm paranoid that all the alcohol could make my bloodwork look terrible. Any docs in the house that can give any guidance on this? I'm going to MEPS tomorrow morning.

Good grief, worried about STDs, alcohol in the system......are you sure you are not a SWO?

The ethanol disposal rate in a 150-pound human is about 0.5 ounce of ethanol per hour, which corresponds to 12 ounces of beer (1 can), 4 ounces of wine (1 glass), or once ounce of hard liquor (one shot). So, depending on how much you've had to drink, you can calculate how long it will take to clear the alcohol so that it doesn't show up in a urine screen.

You are probably the last person I would ever want in my OCS class. Hopefully you can pull yourself together and learn how to use google before wasting our time with questions like this.

I think this thread is just as amazing as the last one about which STDs MEPS checks for.

I'm not a doctor, but if I were you, I'd just drink a lot of water to flush it all out.

lol, thanks. Already been chugging water all morning:)

haha...now THAT is an insult (j/k SWOs). No SWO here, I just like to party:)

I'm not too worried about the urine screen. It will be about 40 hours after my last drink when I get into MEPS. I'm just worried if it will elevate any of my bloodwork numbers.

Yea, the alcohol can alter your blood work. Alcohol gets used up at about the rate of .015 BAC for every hour. In other words, if your BAC was at .1, it may take as long as 7 hours for traces to be flushed out of your system. A BAC of .15 would take about 10 hours to be flushed away.

Alcohol is flushed away by two primary methods....1. About 10% leaves through breath, sweat and piss. 2. The rest leaves through metabolism.

How many hours since your last drink? On edit, I see that it has been about 40 hours. You should be good.

Thanks for the info! My last drink was around 3:30AM (PST) last night...6 hours ago. But I'm not going to MEPS until 5:45AM tomorrow (Eastern Time). It will roughly be about 24 hours between my last drink and walking through the door at MEPS. I'm not sure what time the blood work will be done during the physical. Is 24 hours a solid enough amount of time after 4 nights of hard partying??

You should be ok; drink plenty of (no alcohol, duh) fluids and eat normal, if slightly fuller, meals.

Good muster guys.
A hangover is alcohol in your system. My buddy got a DUI the next morning after drinking and he didn't have a hangover at all.

2-days past you will be fine, but don't go hungover.

They breathalyze you before you start anything so you won't get to the blood part if you have any left in your system. I just can't believe you made it this far in life without knowing how long it takes your body to dump alcohol from your system.

Sounds like you have a discipline problem. Lack of judgement for something serious? Doubt you'll be able to hack it.
Drinking and screwing is a discipline problem? I guess if he's drinking and driving while screwing in public........

Otherwise it sounds like my first squadron tour. We all hacked it.

Is it possible to reschedule a trip to MEPS the day before? I know no one will be happy with you for doing that, but I imagine it's better than the breathalyser beeping at you. And I'm sure we all know a number of good folks who work hard and party hard, and have the discipline to keep them separate.
