All,

I am set to have PRK on 16 DEC. I will be having the custom procedure because I have 8mm pupils, the norm is 6mm. Just curious if anyone here also had PRK with large pupils or if anyone has had the custom procedure. If so, your experiences with the whole process would be greatly appreciated!

Nozeman,

I had both the custom treatment and large pupils (8.5mm). My post-op experiences were less painful than the three other people I knew get the regular PRK surgery around the same timeframe as me. Not sure if I just have a better pain threshold or what. If you have more questions, just let me know.

Oh yeah, the eye doc at NAMI noticed my pupil size and took a second look at my eyes. He asked about it and I told him that the custom treatment allowed the PRK doc to treat large pupils. All was fine.

I had PRK in the summer. Before that, my contact per. was about 1.25. Now the doc says that I'm 20/10 with both eyes and 20/15 individually. My eyes hurt pretty bad until they removed the temporary contact (4 days later) that they put in during surgery. I was told that the waiting list was 4 years long for active duty. Since I'm a MIDN, I had to pay out of pocket. I also had curstom view done. Guess it worked pretty well considering my results. BTW, the whole operation cost me about $3,300. Always remember the drops.

flynsail,

Who did your surgery?

It was a civilian doc out in Jax, FL. He's been doing PRK since it first came out, and he is a former Flight Surgeon.

I just had the custom procedure done last thursday, and to day is the first time I can actually look at the computer and not scream in pain! I saw 20/30 left and 20/40 24hrs after the procedure, since my vision has gotten a bit more cloudy but the pain has subsided. Any insight into when your vision actually started to improve again?

I had Custom PRK on Friday! I don't have any pain today but things are kinda blurry so if my spelling is bad that is why. I had 20/40 in my left eye and 20/50 in my right the day after. I hope it gets better once they take these contacts off. Well its good to know I am not the only one going through this right now. If this works out this will be the best Christmas ever. Good luck

I had PRK with the Aligretto (Sp?) laser on Monday. It's the newest laser they have; it tries to keep as much of the natural shape of the cornea as possible to get the best night vision possible. I couldn't go to sleep afterwards, I spent the entire day watching TV. I called my doctor and I was like what's going on here? He said I got pretty lucky. At my 24 hour exam I had 20/20 right and 20/25 left. Not a lot of pain yet, just feels like my contacts have been left in too long. My doctor said that because of the way the eye heals that it gets blurrier before it gets any better, but after maybe a week or so it should be better, and then they can take the contacts off. P.S. Eyedrops suck. That timer is running my life! I swear it's like every hour, go put in more drops.

Well. TLC did my eyes and the projected cost for Custom PRK and the adjustments for my poor vision, I was supposed to pay about $5100. I think normal PRK typically runs around 4k, at least thats about the median for what my friends have paid to have the procedure done. Of course, exact cost will differ from doc to doc.

I Need Custom PRK for my HUGE pupils

LET IT BE KNOWN I HAVE LARGE PUPILS....HOW HOT IS THAT?? YEAH BABY!! on a serious note. I went to my doc today and had my pupils dialated for the first time and that was hell. My Doctor suggested Custom PRK. Is this Procedure Safe? Does it really reduce the risk of blurred night vision? Halos? etc...? I am also going through TLC and the cost is around 4100.00 both eyes including pre and post op care. I just cannot wait until this is done. Does anyone know when I can get back to work and watching Internet porn on my computer at home? I am getting this done on a thurs I hope I can get back to work for Monday.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Custom procedures should give you better night vision by adjusting for higher order aberations. Mine was $2500 an eye, with a $200 discount. I think I payed far more than most, but I didn't want to trust my sight to a lesser qualified surgeon.
