Whats the acceptance rate into OCS? If you qualify for everything, are you sure to be accepted by the board? Just wondering how that stuff goes.

Can't tell you for sure, but my OSO (don't know which class he was reffering to, but I know it was an OCC not PLC) was saying that one class was at an acceptance rate of about 15% From what I've heard though, January will be much higher. If you have a chance, go PLC, it is much easier to get accepted.

So only about 15% of applicants are accepted into the occ program? I'm going occ because I graduate in may. Goin for 189.

Well if isn't just a set number. You are somewhat in control of your own destiny. If you have a good GPA in college, and have a solid PFT score, then you better your chances significantly. I am going into the 189 class as well, and my OSO told me if I run a PFT score (he gave me a set number, related to my GPA and other info) above XXX, then i'm more or less in.

yeah, i failed to mention that most candidates dont even have a first class PFT when they apply, a lot have no related experience, and no good refferences. OSOs have a quota ("mission") they are expected to meet, so they send in apps that are no good, and that makes the acceptance rate drop. IT really is up to you and the particular board your package gos in front of.

Matt nothing to worry about. Train hard to improve your PFT. Study prior to the test. And have some people who really know you write about why you're Gods gift to the world. If you haven't sold weed (and gotten caught) and really want to serve your country (and tell why on your essay)- you're in.

And if you're not in, reapply. ;)

Introduce yourself to powerful people :)
Im sure you have a few, just think of everyone you know and you should come up with someone who would be good. Get to know your professors, if you have any in a research field, ask if you can be an assistant on thier research, this si a great way to let them get to know you, and you get educated in the process. Take every chance you get to intorduce yourself to people who would make good references, and don't just stop at the introduction, they need to know you. I got lucky, and my references fell in my lap.

I can tell you one way to get good references, is to get involved in a local political party. I for one am a member of the local republician party, i have helped out on the governors campaign, met my congressman many times, and know state reps very well. If you get involved in those types of clubs you WILL meet power players.

A problem I had was that I didn't think that I had good professor references. Broadsworld, go introduce yourself to your profs, a lot of times, at least in my case, they remember me and can tell by my grade and how hard the class was what kind of charachter i have. Also, just by going up to talk to them, you have seperated yourself from tons of other students. Point: you probably have good people to reference, you just don't realize it.

Yeah, I guess I can talk to the professors, research is out of the question though as I am an undergrad in beginning courses; also, the computer science professors are, well, dickheads a lot of them, and I would despise working with those particular professors in anything.

But yeah, if you work hard in like physics class and the professors know it, they should help I guess (the physics professors are cool).

I was wondering if applying to Navy OCS hurts one's chances of being accepted to Marine OCS. If anyone has info on this that would be awesome.

I had been in AFROTC for a year before I applied for OCS and took my OCS package picture in my AFROTC uniform and got accepted. So I wouldn't say that applying to Navy OCS would hurt your chances.
