Or pass out drunk, wake up buck naked on the BEQ quad, and then try to convince NCIS you got roofied . . .

(edit: to be fair, that person got more than a pink sheet; they got invited to find a new job)

So a RAG classmate of mine (This Is No Shit! I swear on my mother's something or other...) got absolutely shitfaced at the Pcola O'club (as young Ensign SNAs at API are to do when challenged by pretty much anyone else), walked down to the beach by the lighthouse and decided the nice cool sand was a good place to sleep it off.

He woke up by the main gate bridge and starting swimming for his life. He got picked up by PMO, who tried to give him a bunch of alcohol/drunken related tickets. ("Hey boys, I got me an Officer today!" type of deal). SO there is my RAG mate, just about the nerdiest looking SNA appearing even more pitiful in his drown rat state, standing before the man. He's still drunk and reeking of beer, rum, puke and seawater. RAG mate is honest before The Man. The Base CO laughs at his story, tells him he couldn't be lying, tells PMO to drop all charges, and calls his roommate to come pick him up. When roommate gets there the base CO chews said roommate out for leaving his (luckily naturally buoyant) buddy to fend for himself after a night of defending the honor of every SNA who came before him.

RAG classmate was a good dude. Someone much higher went to bat for him because he was a good dude.

Moral of the story to every SNA/SNFO out there- You can survive almost anything if you're a good dude.

Anybody have good gouge on how much time you spend in A-Pool nowadays? I heard everything from "a few weeks" to "six months".

Generally this is the busiest time of year (Jul-Oct) because the USNA and ROTC kids are coming in. There’s another rush in early winter with December ROTC grads. Six months seems excessive, but a couple of months isn’t a bad guess. Plus you’ll be doing IFS in there.

I checked in at the end of April. Currently, they are classing up about 6 people per week. But the list is all fucked up right now and inaccurate because people who get pulled for pre IFS swim are taken off the list. When they finish swim, they get put back on the list and back in A-pool. I'm like 60 on the list (total is about 80)... but when the people from swim come back I'm going to be knocked down. Expect to class up for pre IFS swim when you're about halfway through the list.

Expect around 3 months to class up for IFS but the big change is now all the swim that took place in api is now done before classing up for IFS.

That’s kind of weird. Was any rationale offered for that change? I mean by the Director or STUCON, not ENSINT.

I could see the pros of splitting up swim into a separate stage from academics (along with survival). Giving everyone time to clean up and change meant a two-hour swim event took up half a day. But why before IFS? It’s not like a lot of dudes attrited or rolled due to swim.

It's not like you do anything else in A-pool...might as well decrease time to train by using that time wisely.

I know, I know...it mostly seems weird because the Navy seems to be using common sense. I'm sure it will soon come to a screeching halt when big Navy realizes students are completing API in half the time.

“More time to dedicate to academics” is what was told but it was more that there were too many people in swim hold and it created a mess for api classes.

API STUCON is probably trying to beat some imaginary made-up time-to-train metric for his Navy Comm. In the end, the only metrics big Navy cares about is Street-to-Fleet and attrition. The rest doesn't matter.

That first week was the hardest part of API for me; drowning in the morning, aero in the afternoon.
