So, is the death penalty considered a palatable proportional response if the person in question kills more than one person? By that logic, then would only multiple murderers, etc, be considered "qualified" for the death penalty. From the Florida Dept of Corrections website: Not sure about other states, but I'd be willing to guess it's similar. So, they offset the cost of their incarceration yet still costs almost 20k a year on average per inmate.
Yeah, I remember that thread... I think that some of the basics of the argument I presented are the same as the security vs. liberty argument in the wiretapping thread. However - it's a lot different when someone could be sentenced to die. You can't take that one back and say "Ooops, sorry."
