I think that this conversation won't end well.

From what I've heard about it, frankly I don't give a damn, and I don't see why anyone would. Let the man speak.

    You talked me into it.

I won't get into the content of the ad or any political stuff. But, I think that it is a mistake for Tebow to link himself up with the group that is running the ad. Stuff like this is why a big segment of the population doesn't like Tebow. He is very "in your face" about his religion. I have heard the argument that people don't like him due a lack of religion in their own lives. This may be the case. However, people sure as hell don't want to be reminded of their lack of religion while watching football. The other reason people don't like him is due to the media fellatio he received for 3 years, but that's not really his fault.

This kind of stuff can't help Tebow's draft status. There is the very real possibility that teams might pass on him due to the potential lightning rod he could become if he is perceived as a religious zealot and woman hating anti-abortion type. Notice that I said "perceived", because that's all it takes, really. If a team thinks that a huge group of bull-dykes is going to protest outside of the stadium at every game, it makes passing on a quarterback with the slowest release ever a little bit easier. Southern teams may not be a huge problem but, cities like Seattle, Boston, San Fran, etc. are where said bull dykes set up camp.

Bottom line: I think he needed to keep his mouth shut until after the draft.

m26 said, "let the man speak"; I agree. And if he is able to talk some girl into keeping the baby, then he has accomplished his mission. But, he needs to realize that this could hurt him in the long run.

My $.02. I certainly see the other side of the argument, but this is my opinion on it.

At the end of the day, that's what is wrong with professional sports. There are owners/teams who will shun Tebow because of his public religious statements, yet the system itself glorifies showboaters and retains criminals like Michael Vick. Who is a better role model?

Teams will take (alleged!) murderers, wife (I mean baby-mama) beaters, showboats, parolees, and complete jackasses if there's a chance that said human refuse could help them win a game. Are we really thinking Tebow's faith is going to get him blackballed in certain cities?

Agree with both of you. And, yes, it is a shitty world where someone's religious views could work against them. You are right that murderers, rapists, etc. play in the league. But, most of them committed these things while in the league, and had established themselves as good players on the field. An awful lot can be forgiven if you win games. Let's say Tebow, at his ability level, was accused of rape or murder. He would not get drafted at all, much less drop in the draft.

All I'm saying is that ANY controversy is not good for a potential draftee. Much less one that NFL teams are lukewarm, at best, about.

Excellent day for UF yesterday pulling in the #1 class and getting all 28 guys we wanted. Our DLine and DBs will be sick for a long time!

    As for Tebow:

I do think that it could hurt him, but only in terms of endorsements. It will not affect his draft status: if pita can get off of the eagles back after signing vick, there is no way any team would worry about protesters or the like. He is just telling his story... And his mom made the "choice" to give birth to him. As someone that believes in prochoice yet completely respects Tim and his situation, I think their goal is to give future women a face to put on their babies fetus, and their target audience pool is just those women. The commercial would not change the minds of anyone imo, other than possibly some of those young women..

The press it has gotten is the real advertisment; much greater than a 30 second spot during the Super Bowl. And as I also heard, it won't even be aired, ..at least not during the Super Bowl. If they were smart they would put it up on youtube as that homosexual commercial did and has greatly "profitted" from in tremendous amounts of free advertising. They may have already done so, I don't know. Either way, the bottom line is that it is a moot point now imo: their target audience is small and it won't even be aired.

Tebow will be just fine because he is the real deal. I hate Fl, and I hated Tebow. Past tense. But then I realized he really is the guy he projects himself to be. He did not do summer mission work or go to prisons to get publicity. And many a Fl sportswriter has taken a shot at getting dirt on this guy. They got nada.

We bemoan that sports figures are role models for kids when they shouldn't be. Then we get one who should be, and we bemoan him because of the "media fellatio he received for 3 years," which is what I was guilty of. His teammates loved him. He worked harder on the field and in the gym, and does the right things of the field.

I have no idea whether he will make it in the NFL. But if he doesn't he will be just fine.

"Said one of the other players in response: "Shut the f--k up." Others players in the room then laughed." As did I, nice post. John Fox seems to like Tebow, and we all know what a great evaluator of talent he is.

Go Gators! Three Gators taken in the top 25/First round.

Tebow had a great night as the 2nd QB taken and the 25th pick overall by Denver, who traded up so they could still get him.. :icon_smil

    NICE. Enjoying this. ;)

I wouldn't go so far as to say he was the 2nd "quarterback" taken. He was the 25th player drafted though. Fullbacks don't normally go this high, so he should be happy.

Seriously, this confirms that the NFL does not look at Tim Tebow as a quarterback, but a gadget player, a 10 play per game package guy. He can do that right away, and not much else.

There is also a pretty good chance that McDaniel is suffering from "smartest person in the room syndrome", and is living off his success with Matt Cassel much like Charlie Weis lived off of Tom Brady's success.

Looking at Denver's REAL quarterback situation, they all but guaranteed Orton the starting spot over another former starter that they just traded for in Brady Quinn. They are WELL stocked at the QB position. They either plan to sit Tebow for several years or have him run gadgets now. Still, on no level does that pick make any damn sense. Tim Tebow was not going to come off the board today, and there was no need at all for them to trade up to get him. They could have sat back in the 2nd, or even third to get Tebow. It's not like Denver does not have any other need positions other than quarterback. Hell, most teams don't even list 3 quarterbacks on their active roster. The 6th DB or 4th running back in Denver just got sent to the practice squad for Tebow. It makes no sense on any level.

It's easily the worst QB pick since Dallas took Quincy Carter.

That' an awful lot of money to spend on a "gadget player". Why is it that people are so down on the kid? How is that he can be such a polarizing character. I hope all the kids drafted do well, it'll make for more entertaining games/television. I would hardly consider Brady Quinn a legitimate starter in the league - playing at Notre Dame is not a free pass in the league - ask Jimmy Clausen how that's working out. Tebow's gonna play quarterback, at some point. How's that sweet sweet motion of Matt Leinart's working out? Vince Young, "terrible" side armed delivery - once he got his head straight he won a truck load of consecutive games last year. What if you start with a guy who's head is already right?

Quit bagging on the kid and give him a chance.

Mel Kiper and Todd McShay - here's hoping they get some inspiration from Thelma & Louise.

Glad to see some Wildcats getting drafted again. Rob Gronkowski is nothing short of a gamble, but if his back stays healthy he's going to be a great player.

A Hokie (Worilds) to Pittsburgh? Ugh. McCoy to the Browns? Ugh. Ugly ugly draft.

At least the Ravens made some nice Defense picks out of UT and Alabama...I just hope Kindle makes it thru next year in one piece so he can learn from the masters.

Yea I know at least one more SNA in P'Cola that is a happy camper right now. We were at all 3 of ASU's National Championship wins while he was a student there. A Three-peat and a spot in P'cola. Living the dream??

I guess now I gotta try and be a Panthers fan....oh well.

    ¿Qué?

Ugly? Great move, IMO. I was actually surprised to see him go so low, but I had a suspicion Holmgren would be springing for a young QB. I think the draft is going quite well for Cleveland right now. We're shoring up some issues on both sides of the ball. And having the QB corps we've traded/drafted for means that Mike Holmgren and Co. aren't going to repeat the disaster that was Tim Couch. McCoy is a talented young rookie, but he'll get a chance to adjust to the NFL and learn from the old hands for awhile, rather than getting thrown to the wolves like Couch did. JHMO.

There's a long way to go to rebuild my beloved Mistake by the Lake, but the signs seem to be encouraging.

Colt is going to a good situation. It is always best for a young QB making a transition to be able to sit and learn. Colt was a 3 start recruit out of high school, and worked his ass off in college. He had to replace the best quarterback in school history, who had just had the best season in NCAA history, and he put himself on that same level before he left campus. Colt has his head on straight, and is going to be a good NFL player for a long time. The system and situation fit his skill set. The Browns are going to love him.
