ALOT of college coaches would disagree with that statement.
Actually, in baseball that's exactly how it works. If the home team is winning after the top of the 9th, the game is over. They don't play the bottom of the ninth. And if during the innings before that a team up by, say, 6 runs starts stealing bases and calling hit and runs, you can expect a few batters to get plunked. It's just not done.
It's not like they were up by 3 with 4 minutes left and took a knee. The game was completely out of reach under even the most optimistic scenario. There was no value in scoring again.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. I'd have respected the kneel down a whole lot more.
The Horns seem to win in spite of that guy. He's been the bane of our existence for years. I had a comment a few pages back about him.
To totally change the subject: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft10/news/story?id=4805195
Snead is a good college quarterback that had a fairly bad season this year. Could his stock have risen if he had given it one more year? Full disclosure: I like Snead as a former Texas quarterback, but I don't know a damn thing about Ole Miss football.
Thanks for the baseball lesson, but I think I've got it after playing for 15 years and coaching for several. Note in my scenario I didn't mention who was the home or visiting team or which half of the 8th inning I was referring to. My point in all this is not to have a major bitching session. With the exception of my unpopular opinion to finish the game off strong, all of what I posted tonight is just good natured ribbing. Gators have been on both sides of this coin before.
Ok. So let them disagree. I'll sleep the same tonight.
We should have a 10 run rule for college football. :banghead_
So, you are cool with this?
Pretty close. In my 34-10 prediction, I assumed Bama would be smart enough to stick an extra guy on Shippley though.
Congrats to Texas for fighting it out in the 2nd half.
And congrats to Bama. You guys are without a doubt #1. Roll Tide... :.puke: :icon_wink
I want to say that Colt McCoy is a classy guy. His post game interview proved that if you didn't already know it. +1 to Colt. -He reminds me of Tebow in a lot of ways, and that's a great thing imo.
Except for the losing coach wining like a little baby, yes. Seriously, why is it up the the better team to take it easy? The losing team could have quit if it was so demoralizing. Sometimes in life you're going to get your ass kicked. That's a fact of life. If you haven't gotten your ass kicked in something, then you're doing something wrong. Maybe we should have the instructor pilots not be so demanding all the time. I mean come on. Some guys just can't fly as good as others. No need to demoralize them any more and kick em while their down.
I had a hard time saying it too. Tomorrow, my hate for Alabama will return.
Next year there will be a rookie Salary cap. Expect many juniors to leave early this year; decisions must be made by Jan 15th, fyi.
And yes, he could use another year. He had a bad year.. He better have a good combine.
Yeah, seems like a good dude. Looking forward to seeing him in the NFL, unlike a certain Peyton Manning many moons ago.
I like Peyton: we beat him all 4 years he was in college. And he is a hell of a pro player.
I really don't like Eli though.
Edit: I loved Spurrier's quote too. Don't remember it exactly, but was either "he came back his senior year to lose to us again" or "he came back to lose the SEC east again"... -On Peyton returning for his senior season in 1997. // The really weird part of the whole thing was Tee Martin winning the NC in 1998... That was odd, even though it wasn't Martin that won it as much as the defense and so forth.
True and True. I can stand him much more now than in college. I like his commercials.
I don't see the big deal with the end, they were running the ball. That has always been considered fair game. You have the #1 rush defense... stop them. However the final score does make it look like a blowout, when it was far from it.
I'll have my Crow broiled, thank you.
Still a Horn's fan, Hookem Horns.
I'll skip the crow.
Texas played their asses off, in spite of losing their best player on the 5th play of the game. The Horns have nothing to hang their heads about.
Congratulations to Bama. I just wish that we could have had the game we should have had.
Even though we made it to the championship game, this feels like the same ending as last year because we will never know what would have happened if the two best teams got to play. Texas without Colt is not the same as Texas with Colt.
We will be back though. Our defense returns almost everyone, and our quarterback situation is very solid. There is no way that Gilbert will ever be under more pressure than what he was under last night. It's all downhill from here in that regard.
You guys definately look like you are in good hands. That kid will be hungry for next season.
Yep. I was pretty angry last night when Colt McCoy was out of the game, I wanted to see the two best teams possible go at it. Any team that loses their star, starting QB on the biggest game of the year is going to take some time to get back in sync. We saw that in the second half. Texas had flashes of brilliance that Gilbert delivered (pretty killer job considering it was literally the biggest game of his life so far) that I feel like McCoy would have had a few more of. You could see the big plays that were there, but there just weren't quite as many as if McCoy had been the one taking snaps. Not capitalizing on the turnovers in the first half for more than 3 a piece turned out to be huge, too.
Still a decent game to watch, but disappointing.
You don't coach a team in practice to go hard for 59 minutes, the game lasts 60. So there's nothing wrong with going hard for 60 minutes in the game.
Also, if it's "class" that is the concern, tell the defense to step up and stop them. How classy is it for the defense to give up if they know they can't win? I've seen two touchdowns happen within 12 seconds of each other, football can have some strange things happen.
I was at the game and had an absolute blast. Just a rollar coaster of emotion. Muschamp had the defense exactly where they needed to be; yes a blown gap gave up a big play but that's football. They kept us in it and allowed the offense plenty of time to make something happen. Offensively, things were obvious. A suspect running game along with a lot of dropped balls....all while having a 18yr old kid stepping into the biggest role that can be asked of any collegiate quarterback ever. Overall, o-line did well. Asking a cold freshman to replace one of the most successful college quarterbacks, in the national championship at the rose bowl, against a suffocating alabama defense coached by nick saban is simply not fair. Calling Gilbert's play amazing still doesn't give justice. And how colt can still believe in god is beyond me. It's obvious what colt's done for Texas and collegiate football in all. He's an incredible player, human being, and a man for holding back those tears in the post game interview. I still have no qualms with Mack's call at the end of the first half. It was a low-risk play, he wanted to use every second to try and make yards for points, and in no way could have imagined it would get bobbled five different times and still be returned...yes hindsight is 20/20. Horns still played a hell of a game all things considered, and more-so than ever showed what Texas Fight is about. Bama didn't look too hot but ran the heck out of the ball and capitalized on turnovers, which Texas could not. As for next year, sucks to hear Earl Thomas is going pro, but after coming to Texas in 04 I've seen the Vince Young/Colt McCoy era's and I'm very excited in what we have in Garrett Gilbert. And with our one-two punch of Mack and Muschamp things are always bright in Austin.
Congratulations to bama, 2010 National Champions*
Kiffin to USC......FML
It's a blessing in disguise for the Viles. The guy is a toolbag.
On the brightside, It appears Jawuan James to UGA in the wake of Kiffin's departure
