17 Sept 2018 IWC DCO Board

And you're sure that you are intending to apply for the Reserve IWC board?

If that's the one that would lead to me being an 1835 in the Navy Reserve, then yes 100 percent. If not, then I completely misunderstood this thread and will see myself out.

Just checking.

On a related note, the OR in my area also had the date for the board incorrect. The applicant kept feeding him information, and he kept saying "He hadn't heard that". He finally caught up.

If not for this site, many folks would be missing deadlines, because their OR "hasn't heard that yet".

Good to hear. Is there an official source somewhere I could send him to make sure me and all his other applicants don't miss the boat?

I'm pretty sure there's a miscommunication in there somewhere. The IWC DCO boards are currently set for March and September, but feel free to double-check my math. Paing @RUFiO181 or @NavyOffRec ....

I'm helping someone put their packet together right now, and they are rushing to get their interview/appraisals done, since everything has to be submitted/routed in couple weeks to be considered for the September board.
Thank you!

There's a possibility the OR has their boards confused. Next IWC DCO is September and the one after that around March 2019. If your OR isn't too sure, they can check the DCO board schedule OR reach out to their local IWC DCO OIC who can back them up.

@RUFiO181 I have seen the excel spreadsheet of schedules you've posted but do not see the IWC DCO board on there. Where should I be looking?

Thanks in advance!

So apparently the OICs will no longer write recommendation/confidence letters but will provide an additional interview appraisal sheet. Does anyone have any INTEL on this?

I know a lot of folks will be happy to read this. Even if quotas don't increase, there's still two chances per year to get selected.

Reading the rationale for going back to semi-annual boards, it makes sense; especially after watching folks get selected and having to wait almost an entire year before they could commission.

Any read/take on why they went to a single selection board (back in FY16?) in the first place?
OR stated: “You will not be able to compete for the March board if already in for the September board - because results for September will not be out by the time packets are due for the March board. You cannot have your hat in the rink for two boards at the same time.”

He told several of us last week (7 of us in the room waiting to board with the Captains) “if we submit our packets for the September board and not selected, your next opportunity will be any board following March 2019 board.”

It appears (IF) there are the same total number of applicant per year but divided in half (2 boards), and the same quote… Then the odds are the same… MAYBE?! Assuming there are still only 240 applicants and 30 selected - - PER YEAR

Man, that's jacked up.

That doesn't even sound correct, unless all of a sudden the board starts taking 4 months to release results. Normally packages are due to the NRC two months out. Board results come out about 30 days after the board convenes.

It sounds like your OR is imposing artificial deadlines/restrictions for some reason or another. I'd ask for some clarification (based on some guiding reference or official message traffic). Barring that, yes, it effectively creates a scenario where an individual can only be considered one time per FY; completely defeats the purpose of two boards per yer (from the applicant perspective at least).

I know what the OR is doing here.., essentially if the member doesn’t get selected, to simply hold until the next FY. Otherwise, if he resubmits again in March, he can’t receive double application credit for submitting twice in the same FY.

On the other hand, if the applicant doesn’t get selected, he will need to make “substantial” improvements to resubmit prior to six months per NRC guidelines.

This is a load of sh*t. Report the turd to the O6 in charge of that recruiting district.

The OR is right and wrong together. The applicant CAN/SHOULD be able to apply for the March 2019 board, HOWEVER that applicant needs to make substantial improvements in their application. Did they get a masters degree? Did they get a job promotion? Did they advance/promote (if enlisted)? Certs? Etc etc.

The applicant won't be able to re-apply if he/she hasn't done anything to improve themselves between this application and next.

I completed my final interview yesterday, I asked and was told there were 5 IP slots and 53 (I think don't quote me) intel. However, he notified me that those slots are for both the march and September boards. Whatever slots aren't used in September roll to march. He said the board members were not given direction on how to break up the slots. They could use all 5 IP slots in September and leave none for march or use 1 in September and leave 4 for March.

He also stated that last year he had 87 applicants to interview, this time he had 11. This change caught a lot of recruiters cold-footed and in my personal opinion is probably your best shot to get picked up if you're putting a packet together. However, the Navy could decide given the limited number of applicants to place restrictions on the board on how many slots they are allowed to use at the last minute too.

Best of luck to everyone who is putting in their packets. I know a lot of us have really strived to put together a winning packet for March. I am actually excited by the change, waiting for an entire year to put in another packet sucks. I rewrote my resume and statement today and like many of you putting the last touched on my packet. I look forward to seeing who gets picked up at the end of September.

The March board will be taking FY20 as well, so if September takes all 5 IP they could still take people in march.
