People have been getting 5s on the ASTB and being picked up for SNA slots, with your score the only reason you would need to worry if the Navy came out tomorrow and announced the immediate phase-out of all manned planes and the introduction of a new UAV platform. :D

I have been trying to make an account on this website for a couple weeks now, finally it has let me. I took the computerized ASTB Friday in Montgomery, AL and received the following scores: 7/8/7 and a 62. I am very happy with these scores as I am aspiring to be an SNA.

I also just want to thank everyone on here - even though I wasn't able to create an account on here and ask questions, I definitely still used the resources on here religiously. So thanks again to those who posted links to practice exams, strategies, etc.

For anyone that cares, the books I used were the common Barrons book that everyone talks about. I also purchased the ARCO book which had a couple practice exams. As for studying, I started about a week and a half before my exam and studied every day for about 3 to 4 hours. I would get off work and study non-stop in the lobby of a hotel near my house. To study, I just did practice tests over and over again, regardless if I had done them previously. This repetition prepared me for the format of the exam.

Additionally, here are some other links which helped aid me in studying.

Once again, I want to thank everyone on here for posting resources for all of us to use. To return the favor, if anyone has any questions about the ASTB or desires any advice, feel free to contact me or PM me!

Hey I just wanted to get a gauge on the likelihood of getting a pilot selection. I got a 64 6/7/8 on the astb. I have a BA in criminology with a 3.26 GPA from University of south Florida. Letters of rec from active duty navy O6, retired O6, SAC ATF, and a couple army helo pilots. Thanks in advance , and also thanks to every one who posted study guides and helpful links on the site. They really helped me.

Your ASTB and college grades are acceptable. Remember that the board looks at the whole person/package. What clubs, sports, community service, or extra-curricular activities did you do while in college? Are you an Eagle Scout? Sports, Clubs, etc in HS?

In highschool I played soccer and ran cross country. I was also a member of the national honor society and was a volunteer for community in schools turoring middle school children. In college I played intermural soccer, and worked full time to pay for school.

The point is when you put your package (kit) together, you need to sell why you should be selected with a 3.26 in Criminology over a guy that was doing lots of other extra-curricular activities and pulling a 3.3 in Mechanical Engineering. They want to know what you did with all your "extra" time in college. You'll need to address this in your personal motivational letter.

Hi guys, I took the ASTB a few days ago. I went in planning to apply for SWO and Supply, but after taking the OAR section, my recruiting officer asked me if I wanted to also apply for NFO. Until this, I'd never considered aviation to even be an option since my vision is not 20/20, and was hoping for SWO.

Taking the whole test "cold" without studying, my scores were:

OAR: 58
AQR: 6
PFAR: 4
FOFAR: 5

From what I've seen online, my Aviation section scores are pretty mediocre, if even that. The Parking Lot portion of the test really threw me. I don't exactly have my heart set on NFO, but I'd definitely prefer it over SWO now that I have the two options in front of me. I also understand that NFO is less selective than NA, but I'm still pretty worried about these scores dragging me down. Can anyone give me an idea if I should definitely push to try to take the ASTB again in 90 days? Sending me my results, my recruiting officer wrote: "Good results, I think you have a good chance at NFO as a second choice as well", but I've been told by friends from college who were enlistedmen now on the GI Bill that trusting recruiting officers 100% can be a bad idea.

A little background: I'm a Business Administration major with a Mandarin Chinese minor, and a 2.7 GPA.

Thanks.

I am wondering if your OR had you take the entire test due to the GPA change to SWO.

Your scores are okay. While you did not "knock it out of the park", your scores are good. If you've done any reading on this site, I'm certain you are aware that the OCS application process is not limited to your college major, GPA and ASTB score, right? What did the OR say about how you are looking so far? Without your entire list of required submission stats, we cannot make a fair assessment.

I will leave you with this: you are off to a good start.....what else do you have in your package?

Letters of recommendation include a previous employer (lifeguarding), a retired Air Force O-5, retired Navy O-5, and dean of my school.

Extracurriculars/Other Qualifications:
Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Responder
Civil Air Patrol 1LT (Pilot)
VP Student Government (1yr)
Student Government Senator (1yr)
VP Alpha Eta Rho Aviation Fraternity (1yr)
Commercial Pilot, Instrument Rated (260 hrs)
1 Year Varsity College Swimming (before transferring schools)

This doesn't include anything from high school. Will they look that far back as far as extracurricular activities?

If you submit it, they will review it. Showing you've been involved for a long time lends credit and provides a pattern of volunteering and experience. You should provide depth and bredth of your involvement and experiences in your application. This can be done in your personal statement, submitted letters of recognition & recommendation, etc. Were you a boy scout? It counts!

Remember just like a job interview, you are selling yourself to the Navy and defining why you should be selected for the program over a simularly qualified applicant. Make sense?

3 years as a FF/FR and only 6 months so far in CAP. This makes great sense. Thanks for your help! I'll be updating my application after this!

You should be fine and that doesn't include all the other stuff you have done, I have seen people with similar scores get picked up with a MUCH lower GPA, all your extra stuff will just make you look that much better.

Has anybody pre-ordered Barron's Military Flight Aptitude Tests 3rd edition? Does it seem like a good idea? It doesn't come out until October 1st, and I know that when the new Accepted, Inc. book came out, it had a lot of errors. Am I better off just getting the 2011 edition?
