The instruction since changed. It is basically a SWO pin now. You do all the way to OOD underway, which mean EOOW, CIC Watch Officer, etc. The Air pin still can be a PQS drillex. An IA or GSA will neither help or harm you, but they aren't worth worrying about especially with the Afghanistan...

    O-4/DH Selection vs 2FOS

Supply had the same issue with low promotion percentages to O-4 these last few years. The goal for any community is to make that flawless board package: no missing photo, no goofy FITREPs, those coveted soft and hard break outs, the right tours, letters where necessary, no air gaps or breaks in...

    Awards O sea stories

Cook and SH awards that I recall doing all involved me having to sell the Sailors at awards board. JUST doing your job as a cook would not get an EOT or deployment NAM. It was usually, your job plus you were an asset to the command in other areas and you were a leader to peers with...

    Lowest OAR Score

I seen negative appraisals all the time, follow by the, "what happened" debrief I have to give for another chance. I even gave a negative one before. People at times don't know that we go out on a limb for some interviewers' time and aren't self-aware that they were being "graded." To reel this...

I had a PS2 going up for Nurse Corps during my murder board miss...

    Enlisted "Whole Sailor" OCS/LDO advice

For the lack of Big Navy Supply experience, I tell aspiring Supply JOs that I don't expect them to know anything about that, but I do expect them to demonstrate they are trainable. Your Mom is a Garbage Shore-Tour

Not sure about Aviators, but I thought SWO shore duty regardless of where it is, was a moot point. "Sustained Superior Performance at Sea." Shore duty, to include ROTC instructor tours, are just your break. I never met a SWO that lost the farm because, "shore duty was meh." Sea tours on the...

How not to conduct a command investigation
