    Aviation Major

I hear that there is an NROTC unit at Embry Riddle now. (That may be bad gouge.) I also know that Auburn and Ohio State University offer professional pilot majors. I'm sure these are not the only universities with NROTC units that do, so look around. I believe that the way it would work is...

    Best NROTC University?

I'm currently stationed at the Air Force Institute of Technology here in Dayton, OH to get my master's in Aero Engineering. I'm here with 10 other brand new ensigns. We are all either Mech Engineering majors or Aero Engineering majors. Here is a list of the schools we all come from. Univ. of...

Making the most of Stash time.

The best person to call about what kind of stash duty you could do is your detailer. That should be Lt. Lanier at BUPERS. I don't have his number right off hand but you can find it at the BUPERS website under Pers-43. I think he is Pers-433E. Anyways, I know they are always in need of guys...

    Cars

I just bought my ensign mobile a couple of months ago. I guess since I'm designated SNA you could call in an NA mobile too. It's a new Nissan 350Z. Not the fastest thing out there but it suits me just fine. Of course, I can't say that she's shown me all she can do yet either.

Enlisted AT to SNA, Need Advice

After only 2 months with my first squadron, they wrote me a great endorsement package. I was also an enlisted AT. I even spent the first 6 months with the squadron TAD to the base galley. The thing that they noticed about me was that even after working long hours at the galley, I would pop my...

    Name Change

Congrats Fly Navy, It does feel good doesn't it. Especially after being off of active duty for 5 years. Feels good to know that even when you are sitting at home on your arse, the pay clock is still ticking. The being saluted and all that is fine and all, but just knowing you're another step...

    When does flight pay begin?

I ahve special circumstances I guess you could say. I'm reporting to AFIT at Wright-Patterson AFB for a year to get my master's before reporting to API.

    When does flight pay begin?

So I take it that I shouldn't expect it while I'm in Dayton, OH for grad school?

    When does flight pay begin?

Well now that I am newly commissioned I have a question about flight pay. My designator is 1395 but I will not be reporting to API for at least another year. Will I still receive flight pay?? Or will it only kick in once I get to Pensacola? Thanks all. Ken

Post Graduate Eduation - the real gouge

Well, I thought you would figure out what I meant. I called it afit.edu in an earlier message. I'm just going to go ahead and tell you straight. I don't think it's possible to go there straight after OCS. The program I am under is called AE-IGEP. The IGEP stands for Immediate Graduate...

    Lasik question

I believe it is only disqualifying for aviation slots. One of our Navy LT advisors here has had LASIK and he is in the SWO community. The Navy actually gave it to him so apparently it's ok with them. For crypto or intel I wouldn't think you should have any problems. You can always see if...

Post Graduate Eduation - the real gouge

Thanks for the excellent info Steve. For those that were also interested in checking out the Air Force Institute of Technology, the website is www.afit.edu. AFIT has taken on all aeronautical and avionics engineering degrees for both the Navy and Air Force while NPS has taken all meteorology...

    Post Graduate Program

Corky, I am going to AFIT. JR, I didn't have to do much of anything. There were certain majors that were eligible for the program. I majored in Mechanical Engineering and that was one of them. Beyond that you had to have at least a 3.0 GPA and have already been selected for aviation...

    Post Graduate Program

Geez, please excuse the crazy spelling errors in my last post. hahaha, ubundant..... how about abundant, or how do you spell that?? Maybe I should have chosen another word.

    Post Graduate Program

Well, opportunities for gtting your master's degree are pretty ubundant in the Navy. It's no secret that the Navy has put a lot more emphasis on their officers having a master's degree before getting senior officer billets. I'm not saying it's absolutley required but I'm sure it's getting...

    BOOST?????

This is the way I have seen it work and understand it. Keep in mind that since all of the STA-21 stuff has gone into effect, this information could be totally wrong. Marines who have been enlisted for some time, and have achieved the rank of LCPL, can apply to the MECEP program. I'm sure...

    PRT: State Police Style

It is my opinion, and it works here at the Memphis NROTC unit, that the best way to improve your 1.5 mile run time is 400m sprints. We do an excercise here we call "terrible twelves". Basically, it is a 400m sprint followed by a 400m cool down lap (slow jog), a short rest period and start over...

I just got my turndown letter

Keep in mind that if you get accepted into the academy after already being in ROTC, you start over again from year one. I'm not sure if any of the classes you took at your civilian university transfer or not, but you're time in college does not transfer.

    Stash duty

Well, I just received word yesterday that I will not be going to API for awhile. I have been accepted into the Aeronautical Engineering-Immediate Graduate Education Program (AE-IGEP). So, I get to go to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH for a year and get my master's. I'm pretty excited but...

    Puzzled about STA-21

All of our STA-21's here in Memphis are in the NROTC program. And like all of us in the program, they won't have to go to OCS after commissioning. The way I understand it, that's the way it works for everyone in STA-21. I do believe that selectees attend NSI in Newport before reporting to...

    PT test

You should probably run a PRT. Then you can identify the area you are weakest in and focus on that. Every once in awhile, run another PRT just to see how you are doing.

    API preparation?

I would just go to navygouge.com. There's a ton of information on there. The site will tell you that the information should not be the only stuff you look at. But as far as preparing for API, I would say there's plenty of info to keep you busy.

    Stash duty

Myself and one other Mid here in Memphis just found out that we will be stashed here in Millington with the Aviation Detailers until transfer to Pensacola in December. I haven't heard anything about IFS during that time period but I imagine we could do that while here in Memphis. It might be...

    How many have a Masters?

I would guess that someone with your bachelor's and master's degrees might be able to contribute something interesting to a possible problem in Naval Aviation. Don't ask me what that problem might be but I think it's cool that people with all different backgrounds will be working together in...

    Tomcat Vs. Super Hornet

Having been a former plane captain on the F-14B, I can tell you that the Super Hornet will be a welcome new-comer to the maintenance crews on the ground. The main difference between them being that the Tomcat was controlled largely by hydraulic systems, while the Super Hornet, as well as the...

Has anyone heard, been denied, or accepted lately?

What I'm hearing from my ROTC unit here in Memphis is that there were more than enough physically qualified people that applied for pilot this year. Apparently it's rare that this happens. I had a 9,9,9, on the ASTB and a 99 for my PNS points, a 3.41 GPA and a Mech. Engineering major. But I...

    Req's for board

Well, I'm not applying for OCS. I'm an NROTC student right now so I'd be going straight to API after graduation. But from what I'm reading I'm thinking that I should go ahead and have a complete physical redone before I submit for SNA to the selection board. Thanks for the info. Ken

    Req's for board

I'm submitting for SNA in the very near future and have some questions about what they will need for the selection board. Well, really I just need to know if they have to have my flight physical for the selection. I've already got everything else, ASTB, evals, whatever else. I had the PRK...
