    So this is what I heard...please confirm/debunk

Not true... You will have both USMC Gunnery Sargeants and Chief Petty Officers as part of your class team. The third member of your class team is an officer, usually a LT. Sometimes the chiefs are Senior Chiefs or Master Chiefs. DI's are always gunny's. You'll get to know them all very well. :)

    GI Bill

If I pay into the GI Bill, can I get money for going to school part-time? If so, how much do you get? Thanks for the responses.... very helpful.

    GI Bill

Everyone I've talked to says paying into the GI Bill is a no-brainer, since you only pay a total of $1200. This way you can go back and get a Masters at some point in your career. However, I already have a Master's degree. Should I still pay into the GI Bill? At this point, I'm tired of...

    F-18 for sale..... bids anyone?

This guy seems to have all sorts of tricks up his sleeve.... I have no idea how he does it. Not only has the price gone up to $26 mil..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3078059896 ...but he also has a MIG-29...

    F-18 for sale..... bids anyone?

yeah... I'm sure it's a joke... Why would there be brand new engines with zero hours? Also... seems like the engines alone would be worth more than a $1 mil. Also, I'm sure there are lots of ways civilians can get type ratings in an F-18... wait.... nevermind. I just thought I'd spur some...

No more PRK waiver for SNA/SNFO?!

I heard the same thing about 8 months ago. I was final selected for SNA in December with a PRK waiver. It is obvious that the study is continuing and your recruiter has old information. Here is the email that my recruiter received directly from the Captain and Head of the Eye Department at...

Receiving Commission from a Family Member

I've heard that if you have an officer in the family, they can commission you at a private ceremony, just before the class ceremony. Is this true? If so, can the officer be retired? My uncle is a retired LCDR and I would like to include him, if possible. Thanks.

    Need a lot of help

You will need to complete your degree with a good GPA, Score well on the ASTB (a test the officer recruiter will give you you) and pass a PRT (physical readiness test). The PRT consists of a 1.5 mile run, sit-ups, and push-ups. The latter two will be timed in two minutes. In addition, you'll...

How'd you get a flight slot with LASIK? They're not giving waivers for that.

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

Thanks guys, and congrats Basher! Make sure to get in the "24 April 04 " thread and meet the other guys in our class. I've been chatting with Twiget. Do you have IM?

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

Well, the call came about 18 days late, but it's good news nonetheless. I got final selected for SNA! My OCS date is April 24... very soon! This is the best Christmas present ever! The wait is over. I'm assuming others will be hearing from their recruiters soon. Good luck everyone!

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

It's been 15 days since the Navy said they would post the results of the November Pilot boards. Has anyone heard anything about final selects for SNA? This is driving me nuckin futs, and I can't get any answers from my recruiter or NRD Los Angeles.

Is it worth paying to get PPL after IFS?

I understand that ratings don't go away... I guess I should rephrase the question. How many NA's out there stay current in civilian aircraft?
  19. aeronerd

Is it worth paying to get PPL after IFS?

This is a great question. I've always wondered if Military pilots retain their civilian ratings. With so many people having their PPL (or more) before going in, I'm sure others are curious also. Are there any Naval Aviators out there that mantain civilian ratings and fly for fun/travel? Or...

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

My recruiter told me basically the same thing: They are looking for SNA's and have too many NFO's. Funny how the tables turn.... It's been 8 days since their supposed "post date." This is DRIVING ME NUCKIN FUTS!!!!
  21. aeronerd

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

I think the Navy has their own secure website where all our info is posted. But usually your recruiter will get the information direct from CNRC and then contact you directly. This is followed up by an official letter in the mail from CNRC.

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

Cessnajet1h, I only applied for SNA. At the time, I thought I was a shoe-in. But I have learned the hard way just like everyone else on this site. I'm not physically in LA, but I'm going through NRD LA. I'm in San Luis Obispo right now. Where are you?
  24. aeronerd

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

Cessnajet1H, What you choose to do depends on how bad you want to be an Aviator vs an NFO. If you really want to fly, retake the ASTB and re-apply. There are numerous members of this forum who didn't get accepted on their first attempt. If you just want to fly for the navy ASAP, consider...

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

All recruiters make it sound like getting a Pro-Rec gives you a 99% chance, and that may have been the case prior to this fall. However, it seems like several people have been non-selected in the last couple months after receiving Pro-Recs. My recruiter was very optimistic when I received my...

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

Thanks for the info. Where did you get it? Unfortunately I've been hearing "next week" for the last 6 months, so I can't help but be a little skeptical.

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

Derek, Those sounds like pretty competitive stats. I have similar ones (60 OAR, 8's across the board) I am finishing my MS in Aerospace Engineering, but only have a PPL with about 130 hours. Last month my recruiter said I was "lucky" to be put in a "holding pattern" and still in the game...

    Recent Final Selects for SNA?

After being one of the three "holdover" applicants from the October pilot boards, I was told that the results of the November boards would be posted on Dec. 1st. However, I haven't heard anything yet, and my recruiter says she hasn't been contacted. Has anyone been final selected for SNA in...

    Pro Rec and Slots

PR, You should notice one thing from all the posts on this site. BE PATIENT. I was in the same boat you were about 8 months ago. I got my ProRec after a month (very quickly) and now have been waiting 7 months to get final selected. I hate to burst your bubble, but it will probably take...

Wait Between Pro Rec and Final Selection

I just got word straight from the horse's mouth... or as close as it can get... My recruiter talked to a Captain at the pilot boards in TN. This last wave of Final Selectees had 15 pilots (for Oct/Nov). Three others were put in a "holding" pattern and will be reviewed again before December...

Timeframe from Submission of Final Application

I'm in the same boat as you all. I got my Pro Rec in MAY and I've sent in my FinDocs 4 times. Each time they've been sent back saying they're incomplete. The last time I sent them in was 4 weeks ago. The waiting is driving me nuts, but it's good to know I'm not the only one waiting. Does...

I just got the call from my recruiter!!! I got a professional recommendation for SNA! I'm SOOOOOO excitied right now, I have to tell someone! I still need to go to MEPS and pass a PRT before I get an OCS date. My recruiter told me that OCS is filled up until Dec. '03 right now, so that will...

    New selection process?

This whole "two weeks" thing is BS. I talked to my recruiter today. She had just talked to some people at the pilot boards. My recruiter said they were "hoping" to get back to me in the next few weeks.... I sent in my application a month ago. Why tell us two weeks when they know it's gonna...

    PRK study almost full?

Longhorn, You must have a waiver, and there is specific paperwork for it. You would know if you had one or not. YES, PRK is disqualifying, so if you don't get the waiver, you're screwed.

I just got my turndown letter

Viv, Unfortunately, the selection process at the Naval Academy has become extrememly political. Several years ago I applied with similar quals as yours. However, I didn't get an appointment for political reasons (I believe). I tried again the following year with better SAT scores and got...

    PRK study almost full?

My recruiter and I interpreted the message from CAPT Anderson as this. We should all still apply for the waiver because even though the study is almost full, they still might grant waivers. These applicants would no longer be part of the study and wouldn't have to be monitored as closely...

    PRK study almost full?

My recruiter just got an email back from NAMI about the PRK study.... Here it is: "It is true that the Navy PRK Aviation Accession Study is nearing its enrollment capacity. Navy waiver policy allowed us to recommend waiver for history of PRK in SNAs and SNFOs if enrolled in the Accession...

    New selection process?

    How many have a Masters?

I am graduating in June with a MS in Aerospace Engineering. I submitted my application two weeks ago and am waiting to hear back. My recruiter (in Santa Barbara, CA) told me that most of her previous applicants do not have graduate degrees. However, she also didn't tell me it was a major...
