Another nail in the coffin of Old-School Naval Avaition..

As long as we can wear flight suits in the same manner as NWU Type 1, that includes pretty much all stops to and from work including restaurants, grocery stores, retail, etc.

    NSS Facts

Yeah most of the time I'm sure, but I definitely think I had some flights that were not my best work where I got a certain benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was just good briefs

    NSS Facts

This is one I heard often as well. Unless things have changed dramatically in the last year 5s are certainly attainable in both the VTs and HTs and even attainable in quantity, but trying to get 5s is a hard thing to do effectively. Of the people I know who had a lot of 5s there didn't seem to...

    Pickup Lacrosse in San Diego

I think it's awesome you guys are playing pickup lax out here. Of all the sports I've never really played, Lacrosse is the one I wish I'd played the most, but it shares a season with baseball which pretty much ruled it out. I still can't figure out how it's not more popular, it has pretty much...

most useful flight training prior to entry

While this can be an effective technique it does require a certain amount of the fundamentals to already have been learned. Also be careful throwing NSS numbers out, it's not that cool and it can lead to a pointless pissing contest which you'll probably always lose to someone out there. If the...

    Sidearm Carry Off Duty

Technically in Georgia active duty military are exempt from the laws prohibiting concealed carry without a permit. As such a military ID is supposed to function as a CCW the only problem is that not all LEOs in the state are fully aware of that legal provision, so the local wisdom is you can...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

It all depends though. I lost 15 pounds at OCS so the trousers I was fitted for in week one were pretty much clown pants at the end. When we wore summer whites for ORLP the LT was looking at the huge bunch of fabric I had pushed together at the back like "WTF?" Now that I've put a couple of...

    Honda jet??

As far as I know the HondaJet has just served as a technology demonstrator. I don't know of any of them in private use. From what I've seen the wing mounted engines have substantial efficiency advantages over empennage mounted engines, but the whole "people don't want to ride in a plane that...

The Great, Constantly Changing Picture Gallery

That would make sense since anytime a prop cuts through disturbed airflow it is much louder than it would otherwise be. This is why aircraft with pusher-props are always loud because the wing disturbs the air before in reaches the prop. In that configuration the rear prop would be working...

    Questions for the CFIs thread

I got the 2nd last summer since I was doing a bunch of scenic flights in addition to flight instructing and as I remember it the only real difference from the 3rd was reading the near and middle vision cards, some field of vision tests, and maybe a hearing test (can't remember if I did that for...

What is going on with OCS dates being moved to right?

My class date is supposed to be 7 JUN but my recruiter said to standby for a change because they are trying to get more nukes through OCS ASAP and that all classes until July are subject to change. He wasn't very specific as to when he would know about any possible changes, so as usual I'm just...

    OCS date?

It took several weeks after I signed my contract to get my class date but I'm pretty sure your class date must be less than 45 days after graduation, so you can plan on that as an outside window. On your application you should have listed your "available after" date which gives you a chance to...

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

When I was on LCS-1 I talked to a Chief who said he was the one who "flew" the Fire Scout, flew in quotations because flying the Fire Scout involves sitting at a computer station and plugging in waypoints and altitudes, and just watching the monitor. The only thing that was unclear was on the...

Cessna 310 lands with nosegear up

One of the flight instructor's I used to work with had a similar incident in a Duchess where the nose gear refused to extend. He said it was one of those things where you spend a couple hours flying around burning off gas and thinking about how the landing could go. Then when the actual thing...

At least being at MSU is probably better than my hippie ass school where everyone thinks I'm off to go napalm children and club some baby seals while they sit around and smoke pot at 1500 in the middle of the quad. :icon_rage As for the LCS I'm guessing the contract cancelation had something...

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

It was really weird being on the bridge and not seeing a helm (and learning that there are no screws). The whole ship was all computer controlled which makes me wonder what happens when the screens go dark? I know there are many redundancies but given that 3 of four power-plants went dead when...

One thing to consider would be to pack up some of your stuff in a few boxes and leave them with some money at a friends place and have them ship the boxes to you once you get to Pensacola if you don't have time to come home first. What day were you there? My OR e-mailed all the BDCP/CEC/NUPOC guys up in this area telling us we could come out to see the LCS early last Friday afternoon. LCS-1 Freedom and Helo/UAV Det (bonus: SWO Sweater bashing) I got a chance to see the USS Freedom (LCS-1) when it was in port here in Cleveland last Friday, and it is a very cool ship, but those black v-neck sweaters almost all the officers were wearing look terrible. Fast much? It's a 152 not a Bonanza :D Congratulations on the solo. (Believe it or not your instructor was probably more nervous than you) Just wait until solo cross-countries, remember if you get lost all you have to do is roll down the window and ask a nice looking person for directions :D

I guess that was the answer I was expecting, it's just that from above the whole thing sort of looked like a college campus or an office park. I was kind of expecting something a little more intimidating. (I guess that's what the DIs are for)
