    SELRES and general reserve opportunities

Hey all- Does anyone have any suggestions for the best ways to get vacancies from JO Apply when an IRR schmuck like me can't access it? I've been in touch with a local reserve officer recruiter, but correspondence is slow. If I was just looking for things local that'd be one thing, but I want...

    SELRES and general reserve opportunities

Flash, thanks again for your info. I understand that RL/staff corps' changes of designator are a thing, and assuming I'd get re-trained based on that. Do you know if it's possible to change one's designator to a warfare-qualified one, getting trained/qualified. Obviously in this case I'm not...

    SELRES and general reserve opportunities

Dragging up my old thread folks... Following up on the 1305 question- this is actually my reserve designator. The 1000/1050 referenced to billets that my CTO told me that I was eligible to apply for coming from the 1305 designator. That being said, I've been on the MOB email list for the...

    SELRES and general reserve opportunities

I'll try and get more information on this, because I had heard the same from others. Lots of great info vxc961, thanks! Encouraging too, I was hoping I could find find a way to serve/stay Navy without being too limited by my post-separation designator.

    SELRES and general reserve opportunities

Thanks for the info Gatordev. I'll take your advice and visit a NOSC to see if I can at least get an idea of the kind of MOBs I'd be eligible for if I go SELRES.

    SELRES and general reserve opportunities

Good morning. I separated as a SNA LTJG back in August, DOR'd. I had been in touch with my CTO throughout the process, but decided to wait on making a decision on my Reserve status/choices until after things had stabilized and I'd found employment, so I went IRR. Now that I'm all settled...

If you're thinking about Dropping out.

I'm fine with the threadjacks. My challenge now is to find something motivating and exciting other than flying, I don't want to end up in a cubicle (yet) if I can avoid it. I don't want to piss anyone off or misrepresent what I'm trying to say, so FWIW if I'm totally off feel free to let me...

If you're thinking about Dropping out.

What it probably meant for me is that I like flying, but maybe I don't love it. Which of course matters. But maybe I was expecting some kind of personal fulfillment that couldn't have come until I was more comfortable in the jet, or until I'd invested more of myself into making it work. I'll...

If you're thinking about Dropping out.

Some food for thought. I DOR'd from Intermediate Jet a couple of flights from my first solo. I hope I can help someone make the right decision. I'm posting this in the Primary forum so more people see it, and because relatively few people actually DOR from intermediate/advanced. I'd been...

    Bartender, government contractor.

    Life at OCS Questions

It was actually a much more effective way of eating once you got the hang of it. It made burger day that much more fun. I'm surprised to see you talking about chow with no mention of french toast sticks though.

    Motivational Statement MEGA Thread

I agree that quotes look much better in the beginning of the statement, as long as you tie it in correctly. I've actually used them in the beginning of every major paper or statement I've written since high school and they've usually gone over very well.

    Motivational Statement MEGA Thread

If y'all don't mind, I'm posting mine here to help guys/gals who use this thread as a resource. I was selected and will be attending OCS in 3 weeks. Looking back, it was a little corny, a little arrogant, and a little over the top. That's me though.

Medical Question - reporting to OCS Mar 13

Thanks for the input all. Taking shit is one thing, being NPQ'd- that's what I'm most afraid of.
  17. A

Afraid that my motivational statement is too radical...

Thing is, the creative writing really isn't that great. Someone above characterized them as platitudes, and I agree 100%. Int'l relations major here and I've always been a pretty good writer. IMO, the similes are sophomoric and really just sound like a weak attempt to be deep. The resolve of...

Medical Question - reporting to OCS Mar 13

Hi all. Posted this question on the USNavy OCS site but figured I would here as well. I've been planning a minor surgical procedure for a while- hair restoration. For those who don't know this basically involves removing a strip of follicles from the back and moving it to the front. It...

    Point of no return?

My OSO let me know there was one Pilot spot available in the district and that if I could get my sh*t together and get my PFT out of the way, I'll be the only one competing for it. All my paperwork is still in the system/in order so it's just a matter of taking the PFT and contracting. Yea, I...

    Point of no return?

Haha, you beat me to it. Good points all around, that's actually the reason I've been leaning towards he USMC. Still, I know I would love a career in either.
  23. A

    Point of no return?

Not exactly, I know I want to serve and I know I want to fly. I recently found out that I have a shot at USMC Air in January, and I'm choosing between the two. I don't want to make a decision until I know my chances/the outlook better though.

    Point of no return?

I'm facing a lil' dilemma right now and could use some information, if y'all don't mind. I was pro-recced in the September boards. As far as I can tell, I'm only obligated once I receive my FS and swear-in, correct? There's nothing binding before then? Thanks in advance.

    September 2010 Board cancelled?

I'm trying to minimize speculation here, just hoping for some thoughts...gouge has been that SNA is 75% full for FY11. When does FY11 end and FY12 start? This October? I'm sure there are more than a few others in my position here- I'm turning 26 next month and I'm trying to plan some...

    September 2010 Board cancelled?

Ugh. Isn't this the same way the reports of July boards being cancelled started? My OR repeatedly stated that they were still on 'til the very end, when word was finally passed down to him.

    September 2010 Boards

Posted on the USNavyOCS forum but figured I'd post it here too. Mrkeys here is a tough act to follow. 25/M/Non-prior SNA, SWO/IW ASTB: 7/8/8 51 GPA: 3.3 American University, International Relations LoRs: 7, 2 of which are from aviators, one of those a former NA. Interviews: 3 O-6, 2...

Squeaky wheel gets the grease my friend. Some OR's are more responsive than others, but it ultimately comes down to you being responsible for yourself by doing everything you can to move things along. I've been where you are and have been totally stunned at times. Just gotta take it for what...

A "what are my chances" type thread...

Thanks for the tip Seafort, I'll try a different one out. I retook the ASTB today: 7/8/8 54. I'm fairly certain it was the math portion that got me, per usual. Sorry for posting a "what are my chances" thread to begin with- being a little new I guess I missed the fact that it's...

    July Boards 2010

I think it'd be sound advice for anyone applying to get an officer interview, regardless of whether or not it's mandatory. Same with LORs- why just go with the minimum? Granted, people on here have mentioned cases of their ORs not accepting any more than three LORs. Lucy- do you think, that...

Already have a 1-year old TS clearance, will I have to get a new one for my FS?

I got my secret clearance a year ago from the DoD, courtesy of the USMC (although I never actually went to OCS). I was told that I'd have to fill out another sf86 regardless. I'm assuming they won't have to do another investigation though.

A "what are my chances" type thread...

I was told today that July boards for Aviators are cancelled. Go figure! On the bright side, I have more time to study for an ASTB retake...crammed all this past weekend, going to give myself another week and then take the test while the material's still fresh. The only section that really...

A "what are my chances" type thread...

Do you know why your OR told you there's no way he'll get your package submitted in time? If the July boards aren't cancelled, you should have at least a couple of more days. Plenty of time to fill out your SF86 if you just hunker down and do it, if you haven't already. Seafort, I guess he's...

    July Boards 2010

I was just told today by my OR that there are July boards for SNA. I'm a little worried because the NORS Commander in the same office had told me days before that June's were the last until this fall. Wow.
  41. A

A "what are my chances" type thread...

I focused on the "potential former" part and didn't even notice the fact that I wrote (and you bolded SNA). So much for the attention to detail that I mentioned in my motivational statement. So I decided to re-take it next week. I think one weekend of studying should be good enough.

Hi all. So I'm shooting for SNA, for the boards this month. Time is short, but I have most of my materials together already and my recruiter told me that as long as I get it all to them by the 15th, I'll be good to go. Here's a brief overview: - American University, BA International...

I was just told that, like others have said, boards are still selecting SNAs but the backlog is causing wait times of up to 6-7 months to even attend OCS. Guys selected in November haven't even shipped yet.
