Public Memorial Service for LtCol Jerry Coleman, USMCR, set for Saturday, 18 January at San Diego PE

Of course, we all know about Ted Williams - even Ed McMann - but I never knew Jerry Coleman was a Marine. I just knew him as a #&%! Yankee whose team beat my Brooklyn Dodgers way too often.

Scott Carpenter dies, and another Naval Aviator astronaut lost

If that was sarcasm, it was probably deserved. The Neptune was a medium bomber in the (primary) ASW role. But it was a bomber: research the history of VO-67 (ObsRon-67) in VN, or even the role of the P-2 used by the Army (yes, Army) then.

Thanks for posting pic, Malo. We used to shoot 2.75" rockets off the wings of our P-2s. If memory serves, the Tacco had to set the intervalometer to space the firing sequence for the pilots .

Scott Carpenter dies, and another Naval Aviator astronaut lost

We lost another real Navy hero today with the death of Scott Carpenter. Based on what we know of the Mercury & Apollo astronauts. you have to wonder if any of them could have survived in today's Navy. And, God bless him, Scott was a P-2 driver during his 1st sea tour (he later went to TPS and...

The USAF needs pilots? And the navy does too?

Likely, but as a non-insider I would wager that the USMC never replaces all its AV-8s & Legacy F-18s w/ F-35Bs. If they do, it will be a fraction of the current inventory numbers. My bet is that they get a certain numbe of Super Hornets to replace the Legacy F-18s that are literally falling...

    Meet the Airbus A400M

To be more precise, there are now slightly more than 175 A400Ms on order. They still need to double that number before the program can hope to break-even. The A350 won a bag of orders at the Paris Air Show, but it is still 2 yrs+ from 1st delivery. In the meantime, Boeing will likely deliver...

You also have to wonder just how much $$$ Airbus/EADS will lose on the A400M, A380 and the A340 programs - and remember that the A350 (a new program) is still very much in development and a very looong way from initial deliveries. The A400M is billions over-budget, 3 years late (due primarily to...

Well, I hope you get more than that. Weren't 27 C-27Js the original purchase quantity? Where did the other 13 go? Not what I said. What I said is that the "odds on being selected" are better for females. I'm sure all 4 ladies selected are eminently qualified for astronaut training. My point, if I have one, is that the universe of "highly qualified" female candidates is probably considerably fewer than that...

I will. An Aegis cruiser & another small boy don't get it: Do we have a CVN in the area? A flight of B-2s & some F-22s won't turn a Korean War around if the North launches first and catches the RKAF & ours on the ground.
