The PRK process from start to finish

Ok all, I had a checkup this previous Wednesday, which would be about 7 weeks for me (1 month and 3 weeks). My Visual Acuity is as follows...Left=20/20, Right=20/15. I was very surprised to find this out because the last time I had a checkup, which was about 4 weeks ago, both my eyes were...

The PRK process from start to finish

It has been 1 month of recovery on this Thursday for me. My VA is still oscillating some. I was 20/25 in each eye on my 2 week check up, however I am currently 20/30 in each eye. My left is still a little blurry compared to the right eye and the doc says I am now slightly Far Sighted! Wow, went...

The PRK process from start to finish

Well I had my surgery on Thursday, July 19th (Custom PRK). I'll give a "brief" overview of the days that followed and include my current status... Thursday (Day of Surgery)...The procedure did not hurt in the least bit. All of those eye drops they give you really do the job! I could open my...

The PRK process from start to finish

Sweet, glad to know things are going better for you. I just had my exams yesterday, and I have my surgery on Thursday (Custom PRK). I'm getting a little nervous, but it is probably more anxious than anything. I can't wait to see how it turns out. As a side note...My grandpa got cataract...

When are you locked into the Navy?

...The Point. Just answer the questions. Let them do with the answers as they wish and see fit. Leaders are given information and use it to the best of their knowledge. If he desides he doesn't want in or it isn't worth it then it is HIS decision...not someone who responds "Don't Join". Over ;)

When are you locked into the Navy?

Are you saying that in order to give advice about what makes a good officer you have to actually BE an officer?? It's not about the uniform. It's about the individual beneath it. I've known alot "Officer material" men...military and civilian. I've also known alot of "non-Officer material"...

MNU-OCS...Did you have PRK-Lasek, Epi-Lasik, or just regular PRK?

When are you locked into the Navy?

Spoken like a true leader. I'm not sure how old White_Male is but I asked every question I could imagine when I first started this obsession (about a year before pre-school), and you know what...I DON'T REGRET IT...and everybody offered constructive advice. He's not an officer yet, but if you...

Well, I've got my exams set up for July 16th and the PRK Surgery for July 19th! I'm totally pumped and excited. Wish me luck! Btw Matt, hows the recovery coming? My eyes are a little worse than yours were. My last exam I had a -2.75 and a -3.25. I've been wearing my glasses for about 2 or...

API Coming Soon To a Theater Near You

I haven't gone through API yet, but I find the side stroke to be the easiest. And when you get real tired, just do the combat side stroke. IMHO that is...

    BDCP Process

I would go ahead and apply as soon as you are able to apply. You can always reapply. The only limit, that I am aware of, is the amount of times you can retake the ASTB (3 times). Get it done early that way you can relax and as tiz84 put it ..."the more peace of mind you'll have".

    My Situation

Hmmm, I havn't heard about the ass-to-knee standard. Does it apply to all Navy aircraft? It makes sense I guess, though.

    BDCP Process

Great advice all. Thanks. I have thought about all this already, but I will admit that seeing it in writing makes me really realize the seriousness of it all. I have decided to get the eye surgery now and try for SNA/BDCP when my 6 months of wait-time are up. If I don't get into BDCP, then...

    Applying for a Naval Commission

Red1323, what route DID you take if you didn't do BDCP? I am in kind-of the same position. I am getting eye surgery and my 6-month wait/recovery period will be up around February, which is way too late, because I am graduating in May. So, I can't do BDCP. I now have to take another route to...

The PRK process from start to finish

Thanks Matt. This is kind of a general question, but I have searched just about everywhere on the net trying to find a "formula" to convert from refractive index (i.e... -2.75) to a 20/? . I can't find one. Can anyone tell me what or approximately what -2.75, and -3.25 would be (regarding 20/?)?

The PRK process from start to finish

Hmmm...I thought just regular PRK did not remove the epithelium at all, which was why the Navy wanted it. I thought it just did the laser burns on the surface...I guess I was incorrect. Congrats on your progess! That's awesome news. What was your vision before you went in? (20/?)

    BDCP Process

Tom, You are right that I really really really want SNA. However, I see the chances being very good in my favor of the transfer...as long as I try it before I graduate. (That could just be me, though, being hopeful). I have been thinking doing the "straight to OCS" thing and then SNA, but...

Okay all, I am in kind of a dilema here, so I could use some advice. I graduate in May 08' (less than a year away). I am applying for the BDCP program, and was going to try for SNA option. I still have to get PRK surgery for my eyes, and one of my eyes is a -3.25, which means that I will have...

The PRK process from start to finish

I am applying for the BDCP Program, but need to get my eyes corrected. So, I will have to wait 90 days before being accepted? Is that for Lasek only? What is the length of time before the doc can say "fit for flight duty"? Thanks, and excellent gouges

    NSS Facts

So you CANNOT say, "don't grade this"? If so, I thought it sounded a little out there in left field for the military, giving students that kind of power. Even if you could, I doubt I would ever NOT have something graded. All through school, when given certain choices to take "another test" or...

    NSS Facts

Thanks for you input "60B Rotorhead". I was really asking more about the fact that some people here are saying that you can have a maneuver or flight NOT graded. That sounds a little unorthodox to me. You can pick and choose what you want to be graded? Also...The gradesheet is like your...

    NSS Facts

I totally agree. Know your Enemy! (Or atleast know who you are fighting...So to speak) Could someone explain this whole thing about "having fewer items graded...". You can request to not do a flight or maneuver, or be graded on one??? Doesn't really sound logit.

    BDCP Process

Yeah, I've heard that alot of guys now are wanting the big planes over the smaller fighters...so that they are set up for flying commercial when they get out of the service. Altleast not everyone wants the same thing, now, whether it be F/A-18s, E-2Cs, C-2s, etc... Who here does not want jets...

Thanks for the Link. Just out of curiosity, how many people here want jets? Just respond "ME" if you do. Respond "NOT ME" if you don't (You can also respond with what you are desiring). This should be good, lol.

    BDCP Process

Going for Aviation and I want to do pilot. Also, I need to get eye surgery pretty soon. I know you have to have PRK and such, but if there is any advice out there, I would appreciate it greatly! What are the average competitive scores for the ASTB? Are mine ok for pilot? I know I can do alot...

    BDCP Process

I just took the ASTB yesterday morning and scored a 7,7,5, and 57. Is that good? I screwed up on the math section (first section), because I spent too much time on a few of the first problems and ran out of time in the end. I finished before the time was up on everything else, once I got my...
