Anyone know how many slots there are for Navy SNAs to get C-130s. Fewer than there are for Marines I'm sure. Also, how long is the C-130 expected to be in service?
Yikes! I was hoping Babalola wasn't going to come up. But it's like I said before: Every town has it's deviants.
Don't take this discussion too seriously! I don't.
So true! :D

1. Look at both schools.
2. Go with the one that appeals to you.
3. You can always decline NROTC and go the OCS route! :weeping_1
4. I think you're better off doing NROTC.
I looked at both UT and A&M decided to go with A&M. I didn't know much about either school until I paid a visit to both...
Trouble with swimming
I need some updated gouge on the mile swim qualification. Do we take that test right away at API or is it later on in the training? Do they prepare/train us for that swim?
The reason I ask is that I went to the base pool today and the instructors said I'm going to need...
Cruise book
For recent OCS grads: Do they make cruise books for OCS? They had them at RTC Great Lakes and I'm curious if they do the same thing at Newport.
I'm at least a Good Medium in all events (for a 29 year old.) Is that the minimum to graduate or do you need to be in the excellent category. I don't just want to meet the minimum.
What is the requirement for passing the prt at OCS? Do we need a good low in all events or excellent low? (for our respective age)
77 PU
66 SU
12:24 1.5m run
Birth certificates? College transcripts?
Also do priors need to bring anything else besides ribbons and DD-214s?
Also, are ribbons alone sufficient or do I need mounted medals? Will ribbons and medals from ultrathin.com be acceptable?
Got a message from my recruiter's admin guy that my ocs date is May 10, a lot sooner than I expected. I put June 14 as my date available for training. Is the date they give me written in stone or can I move it back a couple of weeks? If so, how hard is it to do this?
I may have to leave the area for a while so I was curious. Also how long does it normally take to hear if you're final select? I was pro-rec in February and I still haven't heard anything.
I'm not paying for the course. I enlisted in the Navy as a Texas resident and I've already used my GI Bill getting my BA, which means I'm now exempt from paying tuition and most fees at Texas public colleges (up to 150 semester hours) I would still have to pay for the check ride and IFR written...
I've been pro-rec'd for Pilot, NFO, & SWO and I'm waiting on word for final select. My recruiter tells me my likely report date would be July 22nd.
I am currently enrolled in an IFR flight course at a Junior college and I'm about to take the IFR written exam and begin IFR cross countries...
I personally don't see a need for AWG, especially when used to distinguish oneself from other warfare specialties. The Pilot/NFO wings do that job effectively already. They also look a lot like the Marine Class A uniforms.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll be back in the weight room.
What I would do with weights is lay on my back and lift two dumbbells. I began with 40 pound weights and did 3 sets of 8-12. If I could do more than 12 I would move up to dumbbells 5 lbs heavier and use those for a couple of weeks or so...
A question aimed at graduates of OCS, but anyone feel free to answer.
I'm trying to improve my sit up numbers using the training plan on navy-prt.com. I use a sit up bar and made moderate improvement using that plan. (28 year old male, 79 push ups, 66 sit ups) I only did 48 sit ups on my...
I had my bp taken again over the last three days. The lowest has been 125/85 and the highest has been 133/87. I take it that's waiverable and not a problem?
Also, avoid ibuprofin as much as you can before having it read. Aspirin should be ok, but my doc told me ibuprofin can also raise bp if it's in your system.
Actually scratch that. That may only work if you've been doing it for quite a while. Alcohol is actually supposed to raise your bp, so I'd avoid having any the day of or day before getting it checked. I've also cut out caffeine, frozen dinners and canned soup and mine as gone from 134/81 to...
So I've been pro-recd for NFO & SWO. I have to have my blood pressure taken again since it was high during my physical. My question is what is normal, waiverable and disqualifying? Is there any way to lower my blood pressure? Thanks.
The service with the most aircraft is the Army (or so I'm told.) So if you're interested in Chinooks, Black Hawks, Apaches or the OH-6 Cayuse then the Army is the way to go.
The Air Force has the best QOL (ie extra pay for living on an Army or Marine base) and the most fixed wing aircraft.
I had a 2.93 in History. Above average, but not good enough for honors or anything. I scored a 6/7/6 46 on the ASTB. Fortunately, I have prior active duty time and a ppl.
By smaller ship I meant a Destroyer or Cruiser. A 27 foot patrol craft isn't the most comfortable ride, but you'll have a...
Well I'm not positive that Intel is what I want to do. It looks like you can get a much broader range of assignments with SWO than with Intel which is what appeals to me. Also, what kind of major do they look for, gpa, etc?
Has anyone else followed the program from www.navy-prt.com? I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice.
I'm following the sit up schedule since I can do far more push ups than I can sit ups. I've noticed improvement in the number of sit ups I can do, but still have a ways to go...
Can someone tell me about the requirements for SWO? I'm applying for Pilot & NFO as my first 2 choices, but I'm not sure whether to put SWO or Intel as my 3rd. I'm curious about what major they prefer, gpa, and the kind of assignments they get. If selected for SWO I'd be more interested in...
I just took the PRT today and did 50 push ups, 48 sit ups and an 11:30 run. (28 y/o male)
I timed out on the sit ups. The recruiter just told me "stop!" when I reached 50 push ups, but I still had 45 seconds to go. (He was a local enlisted programs recruiter, not my officer recruiter.) Just...
I'm getting my physical soon since it's required for the application. I'm guessing you sign your contract and take the oath AFTER you get the physical, submit the application and get professionally recommended? (I was enlisted before and we did the physical and swear in on the same day.)
For those who get selected, namely Pilot, NFO and Intel, I'm curious to know what kind of qualifications you all have. Ex gpa, major, Bachelors?, Masters?, ASTB scores, LORs, flight experience, etc.
My recruiter suggested a coat and tie. Apparently he had an applicant go down in flames because she was dressed casually at the interview. I probably could have gotten away with khakis and a polo shirt, but a suit is definitely better.
PS. The recruiter told me a story about a sub admiral...
Thanks for the help! I'm applying for OCS since I already have a degree. The interview is so they can get an assessment of me. I was curious to know what kind of questions they ask and how long the interview takes, etc.
The rundown: I have a BA in history and a pilots license already. I'm prior enlisted also (IT2) I'm in a public flight school right now and my grades have been near perfect so far. I took the ASTB last month and got 6/7/7 45. Am I correct in assuming I should take it again to be more...
Are there separate gouges for the Navy and Marines? I have the one for the Marines with the F-18. If there's one that's Navy specific I haven't found it.
I tried out the Marine Gouge and got about 70% correct on the math and 80% on the mechanical comprehension. Both were my first attempts. Much better on the aviation and nautical info section.
Thanks for the input. Amattson answered my question about the marine gouge since I have that as well. I was wondering if the astb was the same for both services.
Another question: Do only pilot/nfo applicants take the astb? I've read something about an Officer Aptitude Exam which sounds like a...
I'm studying for the astb using the ARCO book and the pdf file highlighted on Navygouge.com. Are there any other books/sources that I should study? Does 2 weeks of study sound like enough?
