    Crosseyed -fly?

It's the clinical term meaning you do not see out of both eyes at the same time, i.e. little or no depth perception. Also know as 'lazy eye'. "Do you think you would be DQ for NFO if you demonstrated strabismus?" No you won't. I have strabismus and as you can see I have wings. When you go...

Why does the Marine Corps have its own "Air Force"?

Had heard the same thing. One story I heard (note story, I have nothing to back this up with): a small group of insurgents was using the ambulance garage on a hospital as a base of operations, leaving in a truck to plant IED's. We knew where they were, we just couldn't blow it up because of...

    Have some Questions..(Marine Aviators)

Not 100% sure about this, but I believe astigmatism is a no go for LASIK and PRK. You can still go NFO, but search around here and you'll find Marine NFO's have an expiration date (exactly when is still not set in stone though...) If you can get surgery, getting it before you sign up is a must...

    Help

Fight for what you want. Going to the Commodore isn't the end of the line. Continue to display your dedication to training and present yourself as the most squared away officer you can. Continue getting help from fellow students, I suggest looking for individuals who have finished T-1's and...

    New Lt. for Aviation

NFO to Pilot transitions are increasing in the Marines because of the expected phase out of NFO's (lots on here about that...). Like stated above, go for what you want. I'm an NFO and love it but completely understand not wanting to feel like you 'settled' for something. You need a minimum...

Stupid questions about the Rhino (Super Hornet)

T-45's in full swing, 1st stud to pick Growlers winged last Friday. Navy types are selecting both Prowlers and Growlers now, but Prowler #'s are steadily decreasing. I started API Jan 08, plan to wing if I get ECMO, late May 09, late July if I get Hornets.

Future of NFOs in the Marine Corps?

Marine SNFO here, four weeks from selection. Just a little background for the gouge I'm about to spout out. The Marines are sending SNFO's to F/A-18D and Prowler at slightly less than 50/50 right now, more Prowler slots than Hornets. That could change next month, and then change again the...

    Relationships

The friends part will come fairly quickly, the military is a great community and brings in significant others very quickly. My fiance had almost as many friends as I did after only two visits (she lives in another state for her job). Job-wise, it's mostly up to her. How much does she want to...

    Reality Check.

Short a simple; if you want to fly, fly. Don't enlist. Go to college, enter the PLC program (you can do that without being an enlisted Marine), get your air contract, then go to OCS. You DO NOT have to go to boot camp to get into the PLC program. If you want to enlist, good on you. Yes...

PLC, Marine Corps Reserve and Deployability

Yes, you are deployable. PLC does not pull you out of your obligations to your unit. However, I know of two Marines who dropped into the IRR when the got into PLC which made them un-deployable, but if it took them longer than two years to get their commissions, they would be deployable again

Twelve-Month Long Drop in Global Temperatures Wipes Out Century of Global Warming

No, because most of the ice in the Arctic, as well is in Greenland, is on land, not in the water, thus sea levels would rise. Additionally, the land under the ice is compressed by the weight of the ice, so when it melts, the ground will 'bounce' back, forcing more ice into the water, rising sea...

Twelve-Month Long Drop in Global Temperatures Wipes Out Century of Global Warming

Just throwing in my 0.02: There is a reason the most powerful computers were designed and built for climate modeling, one in Japan and one in Boulder, CO. It is an intensely complicated issue (spent my entire undergrad years studying it and still get lost in all of it).

    Question on the Reserves

That all depends on what MOS your going for. Some have really short schools (6-8weeks), some have really long (15 months...)
  33. Mustang83

    Question on the Reserves

I like the way you put that. I was just trying to emphasize that by enlisting, she will not be guaranteed to become a better officer, that will depend upon her. I have seen both in my short time. Some of the priors who commissioned were S!ht hot and attribute that to enlisting first, while...

    Question on the Reserves

Was becoming an officer easier? Put it this way, when I went to OCS (did two 6 week sessions), I knew the game, was familiar with Drill Instructors, and knew how hard it was going to be physically, and I still thought it was very tough... if you can hack it you can hack it, if not... join the...
  35. Mustang83

    Question on the Reserves

That is exactly what I did, though keep in mind, the Reserve GI Bill varies from the active duty GI Bill. You get less per month, and I believe you have fewer months to use. Going to Iraq (or Afghanistan...) is always a possibility. If you goal is to become and officer, go to college. You...

    Overseas Journeys

A possibility. I went to Taiwan for a couple of weeks while in A-pool waiting for API. It depends on a couple of things, 1), is the U.S. 'friendly' with the place you want to go and 2) how well your OCONUS packet is put together and how much do you stay on top of it

    Quest Regarding Flight School

That's mostly because there aren't any unless you have a specific question, in which case, search, and if that fails, ask the forum, there will be someone hear who knows the answer or where to find it, you just need to have a thick skin to get it :icon_tong
  41. Mustang83

    Quest Regarding Flight School

That's it, nothing else will do. OCS and TBS do not play any role in platform selection. You NSS (basically GPA for flight school) doesn't start getting calculated until API (Aviation Pre-Flight Indoctrination). You need to do your own research to find out all the steps, there's quite a few...
