Amazing what you can find online; interesting read for current / future IDC people:

U.S. Navy Information Dominance Roadmap 2013-2028: http://www.public.navy.mil/fcc-c10f/Strategies/Information_Dominance_Roadmap_March_2013.pdf

Feel free to add other links / books to the list...
This has been linked elsewhere, but I find these links useful:

For IW folk I would suggest buying books for better understanding of computers/networks, radio signal propagation/RADAR/RADIO, satellite communications. It is a technical field and unfortunately the Navy doesnt teach you much in 2 months of formal schooling in Pensacola. Most knowledge will be OJT so the better the baseline the better.

Cant say much about intel. They have a much longer formal school as at their first command they could be the only intel officer or two. An IW officer first command almost all the officers will be IW/IDC so like I said OJT.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any specific book recommendations?

Cyber War as listed above is a good read. I try reading a book off the CNO's recommendation list every few months or so just for general Navy knowledge but there are some books in there that relate to the IDC to a certain degree.

As an IW officer and for most officer communities in general you are not a specialist. Those are what your enlisted are for. However you need an understanding of what they capable of and how to employ those assets.

I would say books meant for the college 101 level or general layman would be fine. Like I said you need a broad understanding of the above and not so much technical expertise.
