Depth perception mega thread

I failed my depth perception exam at MEPS about a year ago. I have since had LASIK surgery and passed several tests with civilian doctors. Earlier in this thread, multiple people mentioned that applicants have to pass a military exam if they fail the test at MEPS. However, my recruiter says N3M has cleared me for SNA, and I won't have to go back to MEPS.

For those in the know, does that sound accurate? I'd hate to miss the upcoming board for something so easily preventable.

If your recruiter says N3M gave you a green light, get that PROREC and don’t ask questions!

They have been clearing people still even though the new rule that you can’t go to a civilian doctor. However you will have to take the SAME test you failed the first week of OCS so figure out what to do to pass that one.

They don't use the same test at OCS as they do at MEPS anymore. They now use a book with the glasses, similar to the ones you would use at a civilian eye doctor.

N3M makes mistakes, I have had people that were cleared that weren't caught until OCS! Hopefully yours isn't this case.

Actually if you read RUFIO's post they have been rejecting people trying to do that, this person had LASIK and MEPS doesn't evaluate eye surgery so he would have had to submit all those documents to N3M to be cleared, they may have decided to accept the depth test, or they made an error, we had a person who was given a PQ letter for SNA who failed depth perception, in this case we alerted N3M and they fixed the issue.

Thank you for all of the responses, everyone!

Is there any way to check this ahead of time? For those who weren't caught until OCS, what happened? Did they just have to retake the test?

not really, I mean I knew one of them had failed at MEPS so it was obvious when the letter came in something was wrong. The other redesignated to NFO

Just went back and retook the depth perception test after failing the first time (Passed A-C). Passed with flying colors this time, A-F. I think it definitely helped that I was much less stressed this time then when I took the test with 15 other people in the middle of a long day at MEPS. I have had my vision corrected from 20/30 to 20/20, not sure how much of an effect that had. I also practiced with a magic eye book a lot and I think that helped me understand how to focus my eyes to do well on the test. Anyway, good luck to anyone else who is stressed about this test, its definitely doable.
I'm going to be going back to MEPS for a consultation but also to retake the eye test (the tester was cool and after finding out I wanted SNA he didn't even record a score since I failed the DP test and said to get a prescription and come back). I've been doing vision therapy and got a glasses prescription even though it doesn't make that much of a difference. My question is, when you were looking at the magic eye books and stereogram images and you have to go slightly cross-eyed to see the image, is that what you do during the depth perception test with the circles?

Hey all, sorry to beat a dead horse but I have a question about MEPs regarding the DP test. I'm applying SNA. I went to MEPs a couple months back, recorded 20/20 for vision, passed everything fine, but failed the DP test. I'm about to go back for a consult to retake the DP test, but I was hoping I could use my glasses (I have 20/20, but astigmatism in my right eye) which has made a notable difference on DP tests in the past. My recruiter is telling me not to bring them, but the updated MEPs regulations states that I can bring glasses. http://www.mepcom.army.mil/Portals/112/Documents/PubsForms/Regs/r-0040-001.pdf (See page 45 on the PDF). I sent to my recruiter, but no response. Could anyone possibly give me clarification on this matter? I've never had any problems with vision, but this is the last hurdle to get over so I'd like to do it the right way.

Bring your glasses. Worst case MEPS says put them away. Not like you’re bringing a weapon in...

Practice using stereographic images. Everyone I’ve talked to said it’s a matter of being able to adjust your eyes. Which my tester told me nothing about. I’ll be retaking the DP test as well.

Will do, thanks for the quick reply. I'm assuming they'll want the prescription so I'll bring that as well.

I bought the randot test that uses the glasses so I've been practicing with that. With my glasses I can see them all just fine, without them it takes me quite a bit longer to see them.

After I failed the DP test at MEPS, the administrator of the test was pretty cool and didn't put down any score and just said to get a prescription and come back. The prescription was for my eyesight because apparently, according to MEPS, it's not 20/20. So going on 3 months I haven't been back to MEPS yet because they need to bring in an orthopedic surgeon to make sure my back is good to go (herniated a disc 4 years ago,). In the meantime, I've been doing vision therapy with my optometrists' office. Essentially I'm wondering if this has helped anyone with the depth perception testing? Does anyone have experience with vision therapy where it actually helped? To be honest, this is freaking me out for the next time I go back (3rd time ).
