USMC OCS: Air to Ground??

Hello everyone!

I have a quick question in regards to switching from an air to a
ground contract.

I am going to MEPS on Thursday to get medically qualified, and my true
desire is to sign a ground contact.

However, my OSO and OSA are pushing me to take the ASTB and sign for
an air contract. They say the reason for this is that my chances of
getting selected for OCS automatically doubles, and once I get
selected, I can easily switch to ground.

I just wanted to ask if this is true, and if this is common among
candidates? Or is it a ploy to get me locked into an air contract?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, the ole "trick him into being a pilot truck." Gets 'em every time.

You can drop your air contract if you really don't want to be a pilot. Ipersonally think it's a dick move, and you're possibly screwing over someone who has a real desire to fly.

But you also liked RedFives’s stupid ass post in the Crazy VP thread, so we all know you approve of dick moves.

If you make it to TBS and announce that you want to switch from air to ground, a lot of dudes heads will explode who are trying to do exactly the opposite.

Do you want to have a shot at flight school or not?

My OSO had me go in as an air contract, telling me the same thing: that it was easier to drop the air contract than it would be to go ground to air. I was undecided at the time, so I went with it. Best decision I ever made.

About halfway through TBS is when I really realized how lucky I was to have gone air, and I haven’t looked back since.
