Zilch

This...is...Caketown!
The Wii is a totally different beast. The FPS games are point and shoot. I assume most of you have fired weapons before. While this is by no means an accurate simulation of that, it's intuitive for people who know how to shoot, or even those who don't.

I've always said it's impossible to play a decent FPS game with a cumbersome console control, compared to a key/mouse game on PC. The Wii remote is way better than key/mouse.

Red Steel doesn't turn fast enough for my taste, and the graphics are sub-par. But, as a launch title I'll let it go. The game is fun anyway, especially the swordfights. I find myself unconsciously leaping to my feet when a Yakuza guy whips out his katana. I'm like, "It's ON, fool!" You can sit and fight, but it doesn't feel right. As you are actually involved in the manipuation of game items, you get way more immersed. You flick the control down to drop a clip out and reload, you actually push the doors, etc. Anyway, I'm what you might call a jaded gamer, but I'm totally impressed. The Red Steel game could be more polished, but as an FPS platform the Wii can not be beaten.

As for the rest, my friends and I have been playing the crap out of Wii Sports. It looks kinda gay at first, but it is a blast. I haven't had so much pure fun in my many years of playing video games. Everyone is playing, laughing, and having a good time. It's just fun. You're actually up on your feet moving around (if you want to) and it's more stimulating. You can create these little cartoon alter egos of yourself in with the system's OS, which is very easy to use. We have two baseball teams worth of friends on our Wii and it's fun as hell to play. That, and when you have a gripe with, say, your roommate, you can settle it with the Wii boxing. It's fairly satisfying to beat the crap out of a cartoon version of your friend.

The tennis and the bowling games are awesome. Like I said, it looked gay and totally boring when I saw it at first, but when you play it it's a riot, infinitely more stimulating and fun than hours spent in front of a console playing Halo, Counter-Strike (which I love) or whatnot.

And, there's tons more cool stuff on the way for this thing. It's kinda like the DS. I thought it was retarded until I tried one. Now it is always nearby. I burn the batteries out while my PS2, PC, GameCube, and so on sit idle.

Anyway, the Wii is really neat, despite the silly name. You have to give one an honest try if you get the chance.

Oh yeah, I saw a PS3 running right next to an XBox 360, both running racing games. Yeah, the PS3 looks lovely, but only slightly better than the 360. That, and the tilt control (a blatant, hasty and ineffective ripoff of the Wii remote) is not cool at all. You're better off using analog for the types of games that are on PS3. Anyway, for that extra $250 you spend over the price of a 360 (the price of a Wii, incidentally) the PS3 gets only a marginal graphcis improvement and you will have to pre-load portions of your game onto the hard drive before playing. This is due to the slow speed of the Blu-Ray reader. Sh!t, just get a decent PC if you want to do that crap. IMHO, the whole point of a console is to simplify and streamline your gaming experience, compared to something like a PC. Just plug and play, with no worries about loading, compatibility, and so on, right?

Sony has shipped a hobbled and overpriced game system just so they could push the Blu-Ray on consumers. F that noise. If you are thinking about dropping $600+ on a console, games, and controllers, just buy a Wii AND a 360, plus the related games and accesories. You'll be happier, I promise you.

Even though, as I understand it, beta was better than VHS and LD was better than DVD. Don't know about 8-track. My guess...better?

Yeah as Fly and you have already hammered out the Beta was the superior setup but the marketing and distribution on it was terrible when compaired to the VHS. Now look at the situation with HD-DVD and Blu Ray where not only is HD-DVD superior in terms of marketing and distribution but in performance as well.

Laser Disk was a joke when it was out because anybody in R&D knew that DVD was just months away in terms of a refined and production ready product. Laser was just somebody trying to jump ahead and hopefully establish enough of an infastructure that it wouldnt be worth it to replace. And the rest is history/bankruptcy.

I have yet to buy the 2007 version. I want it.

I bought 06 for PC...something about the XBOX controls just hooked me. Wasn't the same on PC...it sits in my drawer. Too bad I never got an XBOX of my own..still have GTA3 and Vice city sitting in my trunk without an XBOX to run em.:(

Drill baby drill!
XBox 360.

Several Reasons.

Price...
$600 that is just ridiculous, plus the cost of just buying a second controller....$50.00
Halo
Not fond of the commitment to Blu-Ray
Multi-Player at the local level...

The Playstation has always been based mainly around 1-2 player games, and while there are occasionally 4 player games for the system, that requires buying a controller adapter in addition to buying the other controllers.

4 players is definitly more fun, also with XBox you can link them together for more slaying satisfaction, as stated earlier, you really don't see PS1-2 games designed for this.

I was against the Xbox for the longest time, but after playing the 360 at a friends house and now that the school has one down in the rec room, it definitly more enjoyable than the PS2.

The one thing PS has going for it is no additonal costs for online gaming.

While Halo is the cornerstone of XBox and XBox360, Tiger Woods PGA Tour is addicting as CRACK, so is NHL 2K7. Call of Duty is hard to beat as far as awesomeness goes as well.

Have you played NHL 2k6? I thought it was crap, and wasn't planning on 2k7, have there been improvements? Mainly too the goalie, because I could go around and around on that damn goalie and get em every time w/ a wrap around or a one timer.

I never played 2K6, but from what I read, the complaints were rectified to a degree. One-timers can be adjusted and I have a hard time getting them to work, which is good. Hockey just isn't played like that realistically. The graphics are slick and I like the control system.

That's like comparing Atari to Sega Genesis.

Even if Blu-Ray loses out to HD-DVD as the next movie standard, it is still a huge advantage for Sony. As these platforms mature, it's going to be harder to have any room to spare on the media. 360 uses DVD (9 GB) and will not be using HD-DVD as a game storage media, whereas Blu-Ray will go up to 50 GB.

On the PS2 the DVD media is already pushed to the limit. There were some things that were going to be put in Metal Gear Solid 3 that had to be cut out simply because they ran out of room on the disc... in fact for the updated release they ended up putting out 3 seperate DVD discs.

For multiplayer, you can't beat XBox Live. What you saw on XBox and what it is on XBox 360 are two different animals. The transformation is amazing.

Yes but you forget that if Sony is the only game play system supporting Blu Ray then game developers will be stuck with a choice of either get more copies sold on more systems and stick with the lower space format, develop seperate versions for PS 3 and for the rest (360, Xbox, PC) which is hugely expensive, or commit to single platform titles which is a very bad venture on the idea of making money. Yes Im sure there are plenty of designers going "dude we could squeeze so much _____ with ______" but in reality the people that pay them to develop games are gonna look at where they can make the most money and with Sony being exclusively Blu Ray if it comes down to money vs performance Sony will just get left to fend for its self or pay the cost of developing. Which is where that whole "will Sony keep pumping money into a money pit" comes into play. Its just a really big house of cards to be setting anything firm on right now.
