I bought a 360 and hawked it for an obscene markup on ebay. Does that count?

I think the HD DVD vs Blue ray is a big one. One of those has the possibility to go the way of Beta, and I think it would most likely be the Blue ray. I am partial to XBOX myself anyway though.

The choice is simple really. XBox 360.

- Halo. Need I say more?

- XBox Live. It has REALLY matured and become a great system. I downloaded the original DOOM off of it and have been playing it. Awesome memories. Also, with the XNA programming system, compatibility between XBox and XBox 360 on Live is said to exist or exist in the future, as well as with PCs.

- Backwards compatibility. You can play many, if not most, XBox games on XBox 360. More compatibility is released constantly via XBox Live updates. Playstation 3 is NOT backwards compatible. This is a MAJOR oversight for Sony, as Playstation probably has the most games of any system.

- Price. $600 vs $400 for a Nex-Gen system... easy choice.

Any questions?

I like reading this stuff, I used to be HUGE into gaming, and obviously lately things have suffered and besides the occasional BF1942, I can't warrant going out and spending the $$ on one, plus the wife would kill. But very soon, ie post winging, it's going to be on like donkey kong, besides, gotta get beefed up for cruise and all.

Correction, one of those will go the way of Beta.

However lets all take a look at Sonys track record in these situations shall we.

Cassette Tape vs. 8-track, Sony backed development of the 8-track

Beta vs. VHS, Sony backed Beta

Laser Disk vs. DVD, Sony backed development of the LD

Blu Ray vs. HD-DVD, Sony has backed development of the Blu Ray

Yeah I see a pattern developing here. Right now Blu Ray offers really no advantage of HD-DVD and with the price being between 2 and 4 times as high for one player over the other HD-DVD is just set to kill it.

Even though, as I understand it, beta was better than VHS and LD was better than DVD. Don't know about 8-track. My guess...better?

Zilch

This...is...Caketown!
F this noise. I'm playing a Wii right now, and it is way more fun than both of those put together (and yeah, I've tried all three.) Red Steel is the shiz. :)

This is true, and Beta is STILL used in the professional industry. Industry isn't always driven by what's better though.

No, LD is not better than DVD, not even close.

True. It is about making a buck, not best quality...that's how you explain the F-22 winning the contract.

LD is the one I have the most experience with, and it seemed a lot better to me. It is essentially a DVD without the losses due to compression. In a way, it is similar to the concept of HD-DVD, just HUGE because storage wasn't as efficient as it is now.

It's true, you don't get compression effects, but that is because LD is an analog medium. While analog is still king in some applications, it isn't in modern media. That and the GINORMOUS size instantly discounts it for me.

I always cracked a smile carrying a joke-sized DVD version die hard to the LD player...haha:D

Yeah, I don't get how the XBox fans(aka Halo lovers...since that's all they ever seem to get excited about) wouldn't be at least intrigued by the Wii's control setup. I mean you get literal point and shoot in a shooter, that's pretty badass IMO.

But PS3 has got some seriously pretty games lined up. XBox seems more middle of the road right now...I'd personally go high or low, and the Wii is relatively cheap at $250 per system.

While Halo is the cornerstone of XBox and XBox360, Tiger Woods PGA Tour is addicting as CRACK, so is NHL 2K7. Call of Duty is hard to beat as far as awesomeness goes as well.

I'm very intrigued by Wii.

You just can't justify the price of PS3 to me. Sony did that on purpose. I don't think it will work out for them this time.
