My cousins with the M.A.'s and M.S.'s are in the 60k range, but arguing with my mother is pointless on the topic as she truly believes that they have a higher status in life with their degrees. To me, she represents that line of thinking that I mentioned.
And the bolded word explains the viewpoint. There's a difference between raw paycheck and people's perception of social status. It's why some academics can be so snotty while making far less than folks in the private sector. To some people, postgrad degrees inherently give someone higher social status.

Likewise, if someone has made up their mind that "only stupid failures join the military or the trades," you could be pulling down a healthy six figures as an O-4/O-5 aviator on the bonus, or as the owner of a construction firm, but you still won't be the "right kind of people" in that person's eyes.

Am I the only one that is fed up with hearing the covid 19 plan from my cell phone provider, ISP, insurance company, mortgage bank and a dozen other companies you never deal with in person. I get the feeling it is a bit like virtue signaling. "Our customers health and safety are important to us so we are taking the following measures to protect you and our employees even though you have never and have no reason to come to our call center or bill processing office."

I noticed this too. Mostly in the form of unwanted emails.

Yes. Thanks T-Mobile, I appreciate the fact that you have a plan, but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.
