DD-214 in hand and I'm gonna party like it's 1998

Damn it! I did a search before posting it here.

That's a down for me.
Nah, not a down, just remedial embarrassment training- kinda like when somebody gets busted for speeding on base and has to give a brief at the next safety stand down about the dangers of speeding on base.

?

I got pulled over on base one time for wearing headphones in my car - true story. Gate cop chased me down going out back gate at NASWF. Issued me a citation, had to appear next day at "traffic court".

Things have changed since you were in. CNIC has invested in critical safety infrastructure such as:

  • signs that say "no running on base with headphones" (maybe driving is also implied...?)
  • solar powered flashing red lights around the stop signs in the 25mph zones
  • a stop sign where a yield sign stood for 75 years with zero crashes... clearly there are forward-thinking smart folks getting "left of boom" in "preventing the next mishap"
I don't understand how your generation survived!

Base traffic court still exists.

When I searched for it, it wasn't what I thought it was called, either. It was also locked (forum software switch), but it's fixed now.

Or you can be like someone from @Pags and my generation . . . and rear-end the Wing Safety Officer going out the base gate because you were heads-down texting.

I agree. That does sound very much like your Millennial generation.

That's a whole 'nother level of funny, better than garden variety tomfoolery like being out in town and flipping the bird to some random person who turns out to be [random O-6 who is friends with someone in your chain of command], or the guy who drives a loud, distinct car/motorcycle and hauls ass past the two-mile-long line of cars backed up at the gate for the safety stand down, cutting the line at the last minute, or...

That reminds me, gotta the safety "audits" that come with whatever external inspection. "We staked out the simulator building and we saw a lot of your people texting while driving out of the parking lot and not coming to a complete stop at the stop sign." * Voice in my head, "How do you even have a job and when are you going to fix the OBOGS??" Out loud voice, "Thank you, sir. You know, we talk about that at every safety stand down but maybe we should be doing more. We can make a note of it on the flight schedule or we could use this opportunity to freshen up the safety bulletin board in the p-way."

* I guess some people are decent multitaskers with paradoxically low S.A. and they miss the obvious narc standing right there on the sidewalk.

USS Nimitz, middle of the night, in port somewhere sometime in 2013 . . . apparently a couple of enlisted Sailors were getting hot and heavy in an intake or some other secluded spot on the flight deck. As it was told to me, a shadowy figure appeared, began to “hey shipmate” the erstwhile lovebirds, and got told in no uncertain terms to go fuck itself. Despite having an obnoxious Boston accent you’d think would be a dead giveaway.

Yes, that shadowy figure was Big XO, and yes, mileage was made out of this at the next Follies. Who knows how badly the two boat boos got hammered; never did hear the last part of that story.
