Ahrem. Excuse me. “Feast or famine.” ? I was speaking more to the perspective of selling a 12304b MOB to a skeptical SELRES.

In all seriousness, there are some incredibly cool MOBs out there. But if you really, really want a nonflying gig as base Air Ops in Djibouti, well, you do you.

If "they" did a study of all mobilizations, I dare to say they would find that numerous are not necessary and that the people requesting the Noble Eagle numbers are abusing the system and using mobilizations as a long-term staffing solution.

I will guess that there are very that provide real value or are actually required to complete the mission.

Drama for comedic effect, only - but my letter stated "Grooming standards must be observed as directed by Navy Uniform Policy."

Funny thing is - I thought I was S2 already based on the original content of this thread. Guess I'm not.

Same for me. Thought I was S2. Guess not. They're gonna love my beard.

What are they gonna do, kick you out?
They will provide words of correction. Yeah I have no idea how any issue like that would be addressed. The only punitive measure at hand for an administrative misstep seems to be downgrading of status - not much of a lever for most of us.

As for the grooming thing - while the letter (which was dated Jan 4, 2018 btw... smooth, guys) stated the grooming standards had to be up to snuff for the muster, other resources, like when I called in to schedule my muster day, told me that it's only applicable if you choose to show up in uniform. Well, obviously, one would not show up in with his head out of uniform and the rest of him in - we'd all look like a bunch of unimaginative and unambitious stolen valor goobers. At the very least, it would just be a mismatch fashion-wise.

For those of you who have attended these IRR muster funtimes events, when abouts did you get your orders? I'm 2.5 wks out and not seeing them.

Update to my own post. I called the IRR counselor a week or so ago asking when I'd receive orders, since the letter said I'd receive them by US mail. They said I'd get them via email (AMRDEC). Now we're 3 days out and I still haven't gotten them. I called to ask "if I don't receive orders, do you want me to show up anyway?" They took my name and after a few minutes said, "actually, Sir, it says you're S2. You don't have to attend." Riiiiight.

For those of you wondering when your automatic switch to S2 status might happen because of the very message that started this thread, here's one data point.
2005 year group
May 2009 wings (delayed for grad school)
April 2016 separation

I was supposed to be in IRR for 3 years for separation pay. Almost got there! And, did not ask for the switch to S2.

Apparently I was IRR in January 2019, when I got my ID card.

FWIW, I got Honorably Discharged under this policy in May. I can still log into BUPERS with my Navy Civilian CAC and my ODC says I'm USNR-S2. Go figure. Probably just the database admins being lazy.

Congratulations! I'm sure that's a great feeling! I'm curious how you guys have been able to get points and avoid getting kicked to the standby reserves? It seems like they were really putting the squeeze on, although I haven't followed as closely in the last few years.
