Looking for any info on the likelihood of lateral transfer from SWO into Aviation. What's the fastest time to receive pin? What to look for in choosing a ship to have highest probability to transfer to aviation. Any info helps

You probably mean your wings, but I digress.
- it depends.
- DDG's & LCS class ships offer a 42% increase in opportunity to transition from Surface Warfare Officer to Aviation.
Believe it !

What criteria should be my concern as a first tour DIVO in getting the highest possibility to lat transfer to aviation as quickly as possible? Does it matter tremendously on having an 0-6 command rather an 0-5?

This question has been asked before, as recent as last year. Do a search and you'll find out a good path. Your first and only priority right now should be to get SWO qualified, regardless of what ship you're on.

You'll be searching a ton more for your own answers when you start your lateral transfer package.

I'll bite. Ship's schedule should be your priority if you want to pin quickly. You can't qualify if you aren't standing watch underway. Try to figure out what ships will be deploying when you roll out of BDOC or at least try to avoid any going into the yards.

Go to a DDG. Get qualified as quickly as possible. Somewhere between 13 and 18 months. Be the Shoeiest Shoe of all and don’t say shit to anyone about redesignating until after you’ve got your pin and at least one regular fitrep. Good luck.

Does it matter if its an 0-6 command vice an 0-5? I've been hearing that getting a ship with an aviation det and 0-6 command is ideal. Any word on that gouge?

Why are SWOs called "Shoes" anyway?

The traditional Navy uniform of dark blue and black shoes didn’t work too well with early aviation. The first Naval aviators flew out of grass-dirt fields. They adopted forest green uniforms with brown shoes to better hide the dust. So aviators were - and remain - “brown shoes” and the ‘regular’ Navy were the “black shoes,” and eventually just “Shoes”.
