Pilot/NFO Board FY 19- Oct. 2, 2018

So I called my recruiter yesterday to confirm my package was submitted before the deadline. Initially he was under the impression the deadline wasnt until September, shortly calling me back to tell me I was right but assuring my package was submitted so I had nothing to worry about. Two hours later I got a call from a LT about helping my recruiter out by uploading my package to the system. He wanted me to answer basic questions so that he didn't have to thumb through my package looking for the answers. He also assured me that my package would be submitted on time. Then today, I had to come into the office to sign a paper. I am now kind of skeptical on whether or not I will be making the Oct. board despite the reassurances by the two officers. Anyone else have any insight on this or am I just being paranoid? Also note I have had my package completed since June.
So whether I was being paranoid or not, my recruiter has been working pretty hard these last few weeks to get me an answer. Officially heard back today that I will make this board! Only a few more weeks!

Awesome news man!

I'm still waiting on my PQ letter and my new recruiter seems to be retired on active duty since he never answers his phone after noon, so I doubt the board will look at me since my packet will get to them so late.

So I missed the application deadline because I could not make it to MEPS in time. Just checking in to see how I would've stacked up with everyone else. My recruiter also told me that it's basically an auto select right now due to a pilot shortage, does anyone have any insight as to how true that is? I find it hard to believe.

Just please do not add your stats to the Google doc page if you aren't going to be on this board. Also, the last few boards have been about a 60 -75% acceptance rate. You should check the August board to get a good idea of the score range. However the standards are slightly changing for this new year so you might want to keep an eye on this board to track the differences.

I think your recruiter is talking about the rolling auto-qual boards rather than saying that anyone who submitted to this board is guaranteed to get selected. My understanding is that the auto-qual boards automatically Pro Rec applicants based on an aggregate calculation threshold that takes GPA and ASTB scores into account. I believe you also need to have no non-medical waivers to be eligible for auto-qual.

Understandable. He also advised me to submit my package on the next board with my current ASTB scores 52 5/6/5 (Not the best) and my GPA at 2.7 in Marketing. His advice was based of the potential to do worse on the ASTB and not meet the minimum requirements and end up missing the next board waiting to get my scores up. My scores and GPA aren't competitive, however I have been working 50-60 hours a week as a manager while in school on top of being in a leadership role in my Universities Marching Band. Not sure if they would take this into account.

I know my scores and GPA aren't anything that will set me apart from the crowd, however I am currently in class from noon-6pm and work from 7pm-4am Monday-Friday. My concern would be not having the time to prepare for an ASTB retake and potentially doing worse, not meeting the minimums, and then missing the next board. My question I guess would be, in your OPINION (I know no one can speak for the board) should I submit as is on the next board? Or attempt to make myself more competitive?

Also I apologize if this is the wrong thread, I assume there isn't a thread for the next board.

The thread for the February board will be made closer to the board date, so you're not doing anything wrong. I'd advise you apply first, then decide if you need to retake the ASTB since the test can only be taken three times. If you can get your GPA up between now and February, I'd say prioritize that. Emphasize the leadership aspects in your APSR and motivational statement and get good references from your workplace and your band director. According to scuttlebutt around here, LORs matter more now so good ones will help.

Application deadline is August 21st, so this Tuesday.
Deadline for the February board is December 24th.
For the February Board deadline, did your recruiter informed you that it's in Dec? I contacted my recruiter on August 22, and he said he did not know when the next board was going to be. I have since asked him again about the board date and deadline, but have not been confirmed.

No, it wasn’t my recruiter. It was a thread on here that had the board schedule for the fisval year.

Waiting game
Posting here because I’ll probably end up back at OCS with the people on this board. Heard from my recruiter about a month ago that I was picked back up and to expect either the November 4th or 25th class date. I was in class 03-18 last year and got an NPQ for pilot due to my eyesight. Came home and had PRK right away. To anyone reading, with any doubt of whether or not their eyesight will pass the 20/40 uncorrected minimum, stop what you’re doing and call the best PRK/LASIK doc in your city and get it done. Otherwise make sure you’re okay with another designator.

Son is active duty deployed and submitted for Oct 2 board. He received a few minor questions/clarification re his med recored from fleet coordinator fm NRC medical.

1. Has the process changed where the med review is now occurring prior to the pro board?
2. If yes to above, will he receive an indication of med screening (yes/no) prior to the pro board?
3. If med screening is not complete prior to pro board (next Tuesday) will his package be reviewed by the pro board and then continue with remaining med screen?

1. Not really - it’s been that way for at least 3-4 years now.
2. Yes.
3. No.
