Why are people giving this dude shit? He organized info into an easily digestible format that he thinks would be useful. Let people decide if it is or isn't with their wallets.

Sorry man, I think it's a waste of time. Personal opinion only.

I also think anybody who uses such an app is missing out on the good ole fun in digging through a NATOPS. That kind of stuff will prove to be useful later on when there's more to know than what's in that manual alone, especially when most of it is classified.

I'm fucking sure you do your open book natops exam with the paper book and not with the PDF and search. How's that high fucking horse?

Not as high as your temper evidently. I haven't used a PDF NATOPS in 12 years through 3 different platforms...mainly because I'm not saavy enough to remember my login to the NATOPS website (airworthiness?) and as a former NATOPS Petty Officer believe in the integrity of the controlled document.

BTW, a searchable .pdf of a controlled document does not equal an app on the iPhone...just sayin

wlawr005: Aren't you are RAG student? Don't you think you are being a bit critical without a lot of experience (not that far removed from primary yourself) to be taking such a self righteous position. I would get down off your high horse and let the free market decide if his app is worth the money.

Holy shit, you fellas need a cocktail !!! BFD that this dude exercised a little entrepreneurial initiatve. If the app is FUBAR, then NAVAIR will not buy his crap and the laws of capitalism will prevail. And btw, how is this product any different than the EFB stuff being embraced by the commercial airline industry? And spare me on the "the only way to study NATOPS is with a 15lb, paper copy that can only be updated manually and should never be digitized and "searchable" on a mobile device.

For fuck's sake, why is there this much wankery about what is, for all intents, the latest manifestation of the Gerber Gouge? Dudes have been living by the gouge/dying by the gouge since Eugene Ely was around. For some of us, it doesn't work so well and we have to study the actual shit. For others, it's gravy. End of the day, everyone either makes it through the screen-ex that is flight school or pisses off and goes on to do something else. Go crack a B minus and celebrate the 72/96 you've got rather than getting all spooled about some dudes' gouge app...

I guess I sound quite self righteous. In reality I'm just baffled that people would pay 5 bucks to read stuff they could already read for free.

A long time ago in a far away place this wasn't the case. I forgot that when I became an officer I forgot everything I already knew about aviation.

Is the NATOPS really a "controlled document?" Aren't they unclassified?
Doesn't mean the same thing. Controlled just means that the NATOPS shack is supposed to know where all the copies are so that they can all be corrected when changes come out. Wouldn't want ENS wlawr005 crashing because he forgot they switched the word Land with the word Eject on page 73.
