Military/Veteran Discounts

Whenever I'm at the NEX, I ask for a military discount but they give me a weird look for some reason... In all seriousness, that's pretty cool. Speaking of discounts, USAA's car buying program is top notch and I was able to get an amazing deal on my new car. Definitely worth a look if you're in the market.

XJ,

Stuck between that and the overseas buying program...or just buying a junker incase we wanna go overseas for next tour...my wife will never get rid of her Volvo and I don't want to pay to ship a separate car. hmmm...decisions.

I've only bought once with the car buying program, but it was an amazing experience. I had a buddy do it, too and also had good luck. We both got Mercedes and I think you get the biggest discount with them, however I think they have Volvo, too. I didn't have to haggle for my price at all and I got it for $3k under invoice. Either it was a fluke or that's normal, it was an incredible deal.

The S4 that I'm spec'ing out right now (but probably won't wind up buying) is about 9 grand under MSRP, so you get a pretty good break with Audi. I have a few friends who have done the Audi and BMW buys and have been really happy.

I know I should get a beater for my PEP, but am struggling with the concept.

Best deals I've had so far:

-Free Space A airfare to Europe and back
-VA loan
-Very cheap masters degree program
-Saved ~$200 buying a firearm from Glock

This probably makes up for the fact that I'm not a coupon cutter and I never ask for .mil discount at the register...besides my $1 off at the movies. I've heard that Jos A Bank will give a free suit to active duty and AmEx will waive the annual fees on it's Platinum card, if that's your thing...

Where are you doing PEP? The foreign sales are an amazing deal, too and if you're overseas I'd probably go with that. The USAA program is more for stateside. Psh, forget the beater. Those are only good if you're actually going to beat it up and take it in the back woods. Go in style.

I very rarely ask for a military discount, only if it's a big ticket item and I really want to try and save a couple extra bucks. Otherwise, I feel weird about it.

Ah my bad. I misread that it was about the USAA thing and not the foreign sales. I blame the hangover. The struggle is the fact that I want a 997 GT2 or 575M when I get home, and buying a new S4 for 2 years overseas would probably impact that plan.

PEP is in Italia flying Harriers with their navy.

I've only asked once so far, for my futon, and even that felt awkward. So I figure I'll just shop at the NEX for the rest of my life.

You give me hope that a Naval Aviator can one day afford a Ferrari on our pay. I was saving up for a C63 AMG (1-2 yrs old) but none of the dealers would come down at all (long story). But with the USAA program I was able to get a brand new C Coupe (fully loaded) for a ridiculous price. I'd say get the beater then because your long term goal will be worth it. I saved up two years for my car (including a deployment) and it was totally worth it. Get an Alfa spider and enjoy the area.

The NEX is often more expensive.

They do price matching though. Last week, I picked up a Seiko there for about $120, saw it later that night on Amazon for $87, kicked myself, then went back in and talked to customer service. After they looked it up on a smartphone, they gave me a price adjustment, no problem. So basically I paid the Amazon price, less taxes and shipping, and didn't have to wait for it to ship.
