Marine Corps Alcohol Screening Program
MarAdmin 709/12
12/12/2012

GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. THIS MARADMIN PROVIDES EXECUTION GUIDANCE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MARINE CORPS ALCOHOL SCREENING PROGRAM (ASP)....

I can't wait for the post-Christmas formations.

They'll open with the typical first of the month BS session where we high five each other as we hear the Smadge read pieces of paper that start with the increasingly hollow phrase, "Know ye, that reposing Special Trust and Confidence..."

The formations will then break, and everyone will line up for a full day of piss tests, breathalyzers, health and comfort inspections, etc. "Special what and what?"

Actually, I think this one is a bit more appropriate:

Sorry KBay, but I may have to exercise the "partial year option" and depart in 2015 after I get my muthafukin' fity points...

All this talk of alcohol and drinking, yet I haven't heard of anyone here in Vegas for ICAS which means it is 2020 and I'm alone and drunk in las Vegas.

It really hits hard when you are now so old that you are looking for a San Diego O’Club venue for your kid’s wedding.

Aside from my old haunting grounds of the NKX WOXOF Room, you also check out for wedding purposes the MCRD Club .... which back in the day you remember used to have a couple of hundred women looking for love every Friday night, to the NorIs club (but not the I-Bar which was separate) which used to have live band beach keg parties every Sunday afternoon, to the Admiral Kidd Club where we held outrageous Dining-Ins and Outs and could always impress a date by stopping by for the view, to the Sub Base if we ever needed to go ‘sinker’ and even to the AmPhib Base O'Club if you wanted to tease the SEALS, etc. al.

Unfortunately although these visits of mine to clubs brought back a rush of vivid and indeed, WILD memories, the civilian scheduling bitches at each place slapped me back to 21st century reality.

She/they reminded me of how much our culture of warriors has been cheated. Indeed she – the little civilian bitch sadly knows nothing about ‘her’ club, with its long history of famous and heroic Naval Officers of days gone by and the guys who hung out there. No, she was now in charge! She ruled. No longer in charge, is the Navy. No longer are the ghosts of the hero’s who used to hang out there allowed or welcome. No, they don’t serve heroes anymore. Only boring meetings and lucrative weddings.

I only hope the spirit still burns, even if the venues are no longer available for one to express and feel comfortable within their serious and vital profession.

.01 can get you referred to counseling? Better not be taking those readings too early in the morning on some non-flying days!

Or use mouthwash. Or have the breathalyzer be out of calibration..

Yeah, a command maintained item would never be out of cal.. Never.

Or after mandatory fun (you know, official command functions...in other words, "WORK"), where booze tends to flow freely in the name of "tradition".

"No, LCpl Benotz, it's not OK to drink at work. However, at the risk of a UA charge, you will be at the Ball, an official work function, where drinking is encouraged."

BTW, does anyone think for one minute that our Sailors / Marines will be 'innocent until proven guilty' when there are false positives?

Well said Cat, I think I can hear A4s, and the ghosts of all the long gone NA heroes of the past... weeping.:(

Living the dream
My pkard app is jacked up on my Mac, so I can't access webmail. Both of y'all will have to wait till tomorrow. It came through the SgtMaj channels, so it may be over-played a bit - it does have a nice bit about OICs standing tall in front of the SgtMaj (oh really?), but it does reference another email that went the XO route.

Ok. Having read it, and as stupid and unoriginal as it is, I understand the part about the DUI checkpoints. That was actually a smartass remark from the CoS basically giving "intel" that in addition to all of the city/county/state DUI checkpoints that are out there, guess what.....there are four more; the front gates of all of the 3D MAW bases. So don't be a total idiot and drive directly into a known DUI checkpoint drunk.

This is a thought that I have had, many, many times.

He wasn't saying that he was setting them up, just that they're there and anybody with a brain should know that already and not drive through them drunk, that's all.

Now the rest of it? Yeah. We tried that in the MWSG. Doesn't work. At all. You can't fix stupid. I've tried.
