t-34 formation videos

There are a couple threads in the gouge forum that I wanted to post this question in, but they're not open for any further replies. Apologies for the duplicate topic. But..

Does anyone know where to get the training videos for the t-34c formation flights? I have scoured youtube and googled furiously but I haven't come up with the ones I am looking for. I am specifically trying to find the video files they use in the official formation brief to demonstrate the actual sight pictures you want as wing. They're taken from the cockpit of the wing aircraft and would be extremely helpful for chair flying. We get to see them during the brief but they come in a whole fire hose of information. Most of what I could find on youtube were chase videos of student solos... not quite as helpful.

I think they're saved as a resource on the tw4 computer network for instructors to use in the brief so I figured I'd go fishing to see if anyone had ever gotten the actual files. Thanks!

They're probably on your command share drive somewhere. I'd ask your Onwing or the Formation phase head (or "stage manager", which makes Primary sound like a Broadway show.)

Honestly the sight picture is pretty simple once you see it on the IP demo. The part that needs practice is the procedures (hand signals, order of execution, etc.) My form buddy and I practiced those more than anything. Good luck and have fun- flying form is some of the most fun you'll have in Primary.

Does TW4 have a computer lab where you do CAIs? There is a good chance of finding the videos in there. Have fun in forms. It's unfortunate if the cruise form restriction/waiver still applies to T34s. Flying in section is an odd and weirdly exhilarating experience at first, but it ends up becoming very standard and comfortable. Im at a point in my flying career where going out as a single is sort of a pain in the ass. Learn the comm, hand and arm signals and rhythm cold. Don't hit lead. Go collect 5s.

Just curious, you understand, but why do you ask? Isn't the T-34 dead and gone from military Training Command? Are you now involved with one of the many civilian flying groups operating T-34s and offering to do "fly-pasts" for veteran burial ceremonies? I know some folks from this community...and I bow to their continued contributions for fellow service members.
If not that...what? Just want to understand the why behind the question.

TW-4 is still rocking the TorMentor.

Edit: navjack is also an SNA.

you can get on a cai computer and review completed cai lessons, including the ones that the IP used during the brief, including the videos. (logic check:completed the class means you were opted and completed the form cai, thus you can now review it on any computer with tims). main thing is just be able to list the check points from each position and wing/lead responsibilites, for the form one brief, if you know what to look for you acquire the sight picture very quickly. I'm sure after form 3 you'll be bragging to your buddies how tight your shit hot break was.

TW-4 had their first T-6s arrive not too long ago, so 2-ish years from now the T-34 will be relegated to low safes. There's still at least one T-34 on the line at NSE, prolly hard down awaiting the sawzall.

Any chance the Navy will "lot sell" the Turbo Charlies" to the civilian community? Every Bravo Mentor I see these days is flown by local civilian flying clubs...very nice.

Probably not, or at least, not very many. They are so life-limited now that they may not be even be "legal." For a while, the TRACOM was stealing range birds from the Weapon Schools because they had significantly more life left on them, but that's only a handful. Sikorsky (and possibly someone else) were rebuilding spars for the T-34s back in 2008, but I don't know how many they actually completed. There were a handful of wing sections at the Sikorsky "depot" in Beeville when I visited in 2008, but it wasn't like they were redoing the entire fleet.

I am indeed an SNA. Just working on not going off the rails while taking my primary home stretch victory lap in forms before selection in a week or so. TW-4 did just get a couple t-6s in. They're mostly being used for maintenance training. Word on the street is that vt-27 is going to make the switch first while 28 picks up the studs who still need to finish in the 34, then 28 will switch (or something like that). I do not envy the IPs who have to fitu in the t-6 while also teaching the 34. Thanks for the tip on the CAI labs and stuff. I'll check that out pronto.

I think the 34s are also being used for other stuff around the fleet. (don't know what low safes are). A dude came down from VFA 137 a while ago to pick one up for some reason and stopped in to talk to a few of us about tacair. Pretty sure he was actually the same guy mentioned in another thread about giving a little man with leukemia a tour of the squadrons up there. Good dude.

That's not how it really works. And if TW-4 is doing it that way for some reason (which I doubt), they're doing it wrong.

They're at various satellite sites around the country, used for either range clearance or (in the past) as an opposing force/bogey asset. Man I miss that...

I'm sure I've just got it wrong with my Ensign goggles. From what I can tell, though, the t-34 fitu is still cranking out IPs so I wonder at what point they'll knock that off and just run with the guys they have until the transition is done. Some of the IPs fresh out of fitu I've talked to are already planning to be flying the t-6 during their tour here.
