You can use that same line every time you DRIVE up from corpus on a weekend. Everything you say at the bar doesnt have to be 100% true.

But I am happy you got your dong wet. Keep it up.

I gotta say going to Austin for CCX isn't a terrible idea but it's certainly setting to bar low. Find someone cool and go someplace cool. Don't nuke this studs.

Concur about finding an IP EARLY and often. I had two onwings (one on the cruces det and in Corpus) both of whom were snapped up by other onwings of theirs during my CCX weekend. I got thrown to the "CCX pool" wolves. I ended up flying mine with a notoriously douchey E-6 guy who simply wanted to go home for the weekend, so while my buddies went to NOLA/Key West/San Diego etc, I went to fucking Dallas, from Corpus. Yay..... fun. I distinctly remember him saying douchey shit like "I hope you guys have plans... we can't be seen hanging out with ENSIGNS!" or some such nonsense, and bitching at me for being off altitude by 60 feet when I was nose down and climbing, fighting a recently passed convective SIGMET's retarded up and downdrafts. It was a weekend of fun!

I'm pretty sure I know exactly who you're talking about. He was a huge douche. Actually made me consider another platform for awhile.

In flight school, going on the road is usually justified by getting Xs, but pilots seem to get at least as many as SNFOs. Once in the fleet, going on the road is a function of where you are in the turnaround cycle, funding, and your ability to justify it to your ops-o. I've lost count of the XCs I've been on. These days, I'm on the road at LEAST once a month.

Word to the wise though, when you get the fleet, the term is "ETF". Some of the bean counters don't like it when you throw out the words "cross country". You'll get good at justifying stuff if you like going on the road.

Go where you want/ can in flight school. Once you get in the fleet, flying from point A to B without doing anything tactical doesn't really count as a cross country, so it won't get approved. That means you don't do XC's very far from home.

You mean flying to El Centro and back doesn't count as a good deal cross-country?

Not exactly a billet, but it does involve some official duties like writing the watchbill, etc. At least that's how we do it.
Sorta sounds like "Senior Watch Officer"...which is another thread. So...not to be confused with "Bull Ensign"...which is an unofficial billet that I'm not sure even exists anymore...pipelines/timelines being what they are.

ENSs in fleet squadrons are rare. Hell, winging as an Ensign is not common anymore.

<--Still has the HSL-42 Bull Ensign bars.. Because there was not another after me.

He/she is the SWO. As a side note, I did see a SWO (now talking about the shoe type) with bull ENS bars while on the HST last month. Not sure where he worked but apparently it still exists.
