I hate so much to disappoint you. Damn. Why didn't I think of this? Do I get back any credit at all for also sending trashy naked photos of myself, printed on magnetic paper so he could hang them in his rack and be hands-free if necessary?

.....#2 most awesome wife ever....

Yes.

Sorry Swanee, I know you're biased, but she's #1.

You know, there are ways to post pictures right here in an AW thread......

Just saying.

Since the OP hasn't really returned to answer the question, this may be irrelevant, but...

Depends on what he's into. I read a lot, so wife and family sent me at least a book a week (Amazon works pretty well for this, and you can buy used books through them).

Ditto the above on food, unless there's something you make that he really loves and it's semi-non-perishable. Mama Fester makes a really good pound cake, and she wrapped it up thoroughly in padding and Press-n-Seal (really good stuff - cakes arrived on the boat still moist). Once our Boat was established in the NAG and the supply system had stabilized, mail was getting to us from the east coast in ten days or so. When we were in transit, it could be up to three weeks.

I'm noticing that all the people that are saying not to send food are the people who were/are on carriers and/or the dessert. If a special someone is on a small boy (especially a FFG), food is one of the top things one can send. And as mentioned, sometimes the aircrew can't get meals they rate because they were flying. It's not right, but it happens quite often.

(Fester, I think you've forgotten your black shoe roots...smiles, of course).

YES Vill!. Only ONE SWO wife sent naked photos and she was by far the hottest wife in the wardroom....size 1, 34C if memory serves. The mere presence of these pics pissed off pretty much all the wives and unfortunately it became fodder for the Ombudsman and XO's wife to crack down on the JO's. Needless to say, within two days of the USN/USPS delivered pics, the XO placed those photos in a safe as the JO's immediately became "unmanageable". More than one JO was mysteriously hanging out in John's stateroom when he wasn't present and that raised some eyebrows fairly quickly. The subject couple was divorced a few years later as she was diagnosed Bi-Polar/Nymphomania etc... but who cared back then! btw MB, she did take him to the cleaners in the divorce so looks don't matter. She was NO Manatee.

What's up the books on tape thing? Is the new Navy THAT much more cerebral?

Since when do JO's work for or answer to the Ombudsman or the XO's wife?

That being said, has anyone ever had a bachelor CO/XO in aviation? I've never had one who did not meet the "Family Man" type. Seriously.

The XO took a guy's personal photos? WTF?

Are you kidding? When Mom thinks the wardroom is radically veering off course everything is fair game. Personal property means jack s__t. Personal anything mean nothing if mom and dad deem it inappropriate for duty.

MB's post:
Since the Ombudsman and XOs wife keep their husbands balls in a jar
.

This is reality. I doubt the pious spouse Navy has changed dramatically in 25 years.

What a typical SWO solution.

Here's a thought - tell the JO who owns them to keep them locked up. That was real fuckin' hard to come up with. SWOs mystify me.

No kidding. XO was probably rubbing one out to that guy's wife.

Reminds me of another cruise event, though. Our spouses' club sent calendars to the ready room wherein each wife put her picture on a day of the calendar, representing the number of days we had left on cruise. Most of them were wholesome pictures with the kids and dog and such. One guy's wife put one on there with barely anything on, holding a set of handcuffs and a can of whipped cream, with the caption, "Can't wait to see you!" Not a bad picture. Unfortunately, this guy was a loser, and totally undeserving of such good service!
