As an aside good stuff/funny-

Heard a good one from a offline jumpseater this morning:

NWA pilot referred to himself as a 'nerd' (Never Ever Really Delta)

"Embracing the whale breach ballistics of my own mediocrity has been one of the crown jewels of my personal development."

Hilarious. Does the world outside of our never-never land job appreciates caustic sarcasm and wit the way we do? I feel like writing something like this at any other job would probably be grounds for a counseling session, best case.

I love the perspective the guy has. His tone makes me think of a Kevin Spacey, "American Beauty", fvck my life kinda vibe. +2 :)

Good read. He writes like Chuck Palahniuk. The guy who wrote Fight Club, Choke, Invisible Monsters. (Yes Fight Club was a book) If this style writing is "your bag" check him out.

...He writes like Chuck Palahniuk. ...
I'm not gettin' that one ... this guy writes about 'real' stuff that we've all experienced in the airlines ... the things that just never change.

His style is humorous and satirical w/ a little bit of irony thrown in for good measure. Nothing 'dark', nothing 'transgressive', no one's 'breaking out' of the confines of society. I guess you have to fly for the airlines before you can see the true 'humor' in it all ...

I see your point. I was going more along the lines of the dry humor. And it struck me as a little dark. Talking about yanking across the double yellow, no hope for any type of lasting marriage or family life and so forth. Having not flown or had these experiences it doesn't strike me in the same way. I'm sure your right and do see it in a different light. For you it's a humorous jab at past experiences. For myself it doesn't hold the same weight.

I'm curious.. Is this guy flying for a major and just picking up charter stuff in company airplanes or is he just flying charters for some no-name charter company? Inquiring minds want to know...

Majors pick up charters all the time. At Hawaiian, we charter to fly the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. We used to do military charters but haven't in recent years.

You're a smart & 'perceptive' boy ... as such, you're gonna' do fine in Naval Air ... IF you keep your head on a swivel, eyes OPEN, ears OPEN, mouth semi-shut.

"... no hope for any type of lasting marriage or family life and so forth..." UNFORTUNATELY ... that's all too often part of the equation. I thought I was 'better' than that and it would never happen to me.

I wasn't and it did.

But I'm a hell of a lot 'happier' now ... sooooooooooooo ... thank you very much ...
:)
