Wouldn't be that bad a job. Deploy to Nellis and fly that bad boy from 10K miles away, go home to your wife and house. But then again, we are in the NAVY and we LIKE to forward deploy! It's in our blood.
I think I just spewed coffee all over my keyboard. Did a P-3 bubba just say this? I think you left out the 5-star hotel and the per-diem being in your blood too.

Wow -- I wish my stateroom was like the Meridien in Bahrain. Room service and my own bathroom.

Do P3 sea service ribbons with stars indicate what kind of hotel you stayed at when "deployed"?

To be fair, I've also stayed in some huge sh!tholes while deployed in VP, so it's not all choker whites and dinings out. I'll take the boat over places like Soto Cano or Panama.

Uh... not so much.

Predator does a much better job in the overland arena, and doesn't cost near as much!

Actually, I've flown overland in Afghanistan and Iraq (as well as other places) and the guys on the ground would MUCH rather have a manned aircraft overhead. Predator can't hold a candle to what MPA provides ground forces.

I'll give you cheaper.... but you get what you pay for.

Don't doubt that you have flown overland -- just think that Predator gives a better info -- and it fires back without risking 15 people and costs a lot less (and therefore can provide more platforms for ISR).

Statements are generally recieved much better when they are qualified. Any specific example would be swell.

P-3's have their strength and weaknesses......

Predators have their strengths and weaknesses......

Combatant Commanders prefer one or the other for certain types of operations but the primary concern right now is getting more FMV, period. I am very aware of the larger debate about this very subject. Both platforms have much to be proud of, no need to snipe at each other about semantics.

P-3's can fire back. Ever heard of a Maverick? We can carry quite a few of them. Up to 20K lbs of boom that can stay on station for hours, no plane can do that and provide the same sensor coverage a P-3 can. P-3's can also fly in WX that would destroy a predator.

Don't get me wrong, the Predator is a great system, but it can't really be compared to a P-3.

Has anyone considered wiring the P-3 for JDAM or LGBs? Range is probably comparable to Maverick at that altitude. I suspect the 1553 data buss wiring is already in place for Maverick and all you'd need for the LGBs is electric tail fuzing capes and a designator. Hell of a lot cheaper than SLAM-ER. Just a thought.

Unfortunately our pointy-nosed buddies don't want us butting in on their territory - nevermind that it would be a good idea...

Seriously, if they're sending up B-52s to be high loiter JDAM lobbing platforms, why not put 18 of them on a P-3? Reminds me of when we put 18 MK-82s on one plane and killed a bunch of fish out in the warning area. :D

I would still rather have more ISR platforms for the cost and not have to pick up the mess from a P3 that went down in country.
