Today I went into the NRD I used to support as a reservist. Here is the latest gouge. The only programs still open are CEC and NUKE. Everything else is closed for FY09. By that I mean they will not accept any more apps for a FY09 quota. It does look like there will be one more board for SWO, but they are looking at apps on the desk now. Next boards for SNA,NFO,SWO, and INTEL will be in JAN. That board will begin to fill quotas for FY10. That means if you select you would go to OCS in the summer with a class date that commissions after 01OCT09, which is FY10. The quotas for FY10 look to be just slightly higher then this year. SOP for the board now is reported to be to accept and review just 50 apps per board. They will select, therefor, no more then 50 guys a board. Since they started this procedure they have run about 25 selects per board out of the 50 they look at. This is a pretty big change from the way the board operated for the last 20 years or so.

IN REVIEW, no boards until JAN. About the same number of jobs available next year as this year. If selected you probably will not go to OCS until the summer.

Good luck all

If I read this correctly, then since my package is up for review for the Nov board on Monday, I am only going to be looked at for SWO. Since I also applied for Supply and NFO, I will not be looked at until January for those? This is disheartening if correct being that I turn 31 in July and will not meet the age requirements even with the waiver for NFO.

I can't speak for the board directly. From what I was told, and the way they are conducting business at one of the largest NRDs, you will not get a look at NFO or Supply until Jan. Since you have an age issue, a FY10 quota will not come up soon enough for you to meet the age requirement. It is always possible that IF selected, they look to try and put you in an OCS class where an opening comes up unexpectedly. If you are ready to ship out at short notice you could get a FY09 quota after some guy doesn't ship because of school, a blown out knee or just cold feet. Things change, but it doesn't look too good for you. IF you did get a SWO offer and could ship out early enough to be legal, I'd think real hard about taking it. If you wait until Jan for a look at NFO or Supply, you will probably be too old. Just a thought. Good luck.

I thought SWO, NFO, and SNA were all the same board. I'm just confused because I talked to my recruiter yesterday and he said the board meets Monday and I should know the results by the end of the week. I really hope I don't have to wait until January after waiting to finally get my package up to the November board.

Same people, but they will only consider SWO at this sitting.

NOW EVERYONE PAT ATTENTION TO WHAT I TELL ATRICKPAY
It looks to me you are a BDCP applicant. I am talking regular OCS, guys that would go straight to OCS and not draw pay. All the above does not apply to you.
EVERYONE GET THAT? KEEP YOUR APPLES AND ORANGES STRAIGHT.
If you are a BDCP applicant don't worry about this.

This is going to cause a riot in the Nov08 thread. Any thoughts on how OCS classes will be filled from now until FY10? Just smaller classes with the BDCP folks i presume?

They are already full. What made you think they were not? Why would the classes be smaller. They have selected everyone they need for FY09.

Does this mean there will be a lot of applicants in the January boards since all the applicants from Nov. through Jan. will be reviewed in Jan?

-1 for reading comprehension. My post above outlines the new practice. Only 50 apps per board.

Yes, my reading comprehension sucks, thanks for the info. I doubt I'll be apply until February anyway.

I noticed you are 25 years old. Do not delay in your application. You can see how an entire year can fill up quickly. I don't know what program you are going for, but many age limits are 27. And generally, they shy away from people close to the age limit. Age matters.

Okay, I can see how this is a little confusing to everybody. SC Kemp told me that my app for SNA is up for this Nov '08 board and I should find out by the end of the week. What fiscal year does that put me into? '09 still?

I wouldn't mind going to OCS until summer, I hate the cold. :(
