Either way, your ribbons will highlight you during training; why not go for the full treatment? :)

The uniform shop at Newport has everything you'll need uniform wise. They will even mount the medals for you.

IMHO, its one of the better ones outside of Bethesda that I've been to. Always fun to go look around, even if you didn't have to buy anything.

Do I have to have these ultra thin ribbons mounted or can I just buy them at a uniform shop and do it myslef?

I've never seen them sold individually. You usually go to a website and place an order, and they assemble them for you. I would love to be able to make my own---I feel like they use cheap glue.

You have to go to the website.

I don't use them for my ribbons anymore. If one broke or something like that, you'd have to re-order th whole rack. Its easier to just buy the regular ribbons at the NEX and mount them on a regular bar.

As for medals, since I only have 3, I just do the same. When I get more, I may do the whole ultra-thin thing.

Personally, I thought they mounted medals like crap when I was there. They used electrical tape on the back to cover up the stitching. The ones I had handed into them were actually sewn up on the back with black fabric. The electrical tape just looked like crap. Though no one else can see it, and it doesn't leave anything on the uniform. This was in '05, so the person doing it may have changed since then.

The glue they use is elmers. Personally, I think it's the best to use. Yes, they will fall off in the rain, but it doesn't leave a large spot on the outside like super glue will, and it looks great if you know what you're doing. I went w/ ultathins because I liked the way they looked.

Tip: If you're mounting your own devices, clip off the hooks w/ a fingernail clippers. Then, use the resulting hooks to apply glue to the spot where you want the device. After that, just place the device in the spot. I use the hooks to apply the glue because it doesn't require much glue, and you can get it exactly where you want. Also, elmers glue dries clear, so you can't see it. The problem w/ super glue is it will soak into the material, and leave a dark spot where ever you use it.
