They're not cheap brand new, especially loaded to the gills with a G1000 and AC. Here's a pricing list to see:

Personally I would have opted for a Cirrus though.

True, but at some point, the accessories kind of become overkill. IMHO (as inexperienced as it may be), I'd opt for a larger, more capable (albeit still affordable) airframe with a lesser avionics package. Storm-scope and terrain mapping in a cessna?? I mean, at what point do you put a TCAS in a Piper J3 cub?

This is all based on my actually having money to blow on an aircraft.

I did some flying in a G1000 with weather radar and two storm cells outside and it was one of the coolest civilian flights I ever did. It was like having real time Doppler radar with everything being so clear. Yes, it is a Cessna but they are good planes.

...but according to his friend, he's an expert in getting things cheaply and said the Sea Harrier didn't cost him anything more than a new Volkswagen, but cost him more to get it transported to Southern Maryland.

He probably got it cheaply because they are cheap, relatively speaking.

The company that Nalls bought his SHAR from were also selling an ex-RAF Jaguar T Mk4 with low time motors, bang seats, complete avionics (sans classified) and a load of other goodies for £80,000 ($160,000). The jet had been kept in flyable storage and was almost in flyaway condition. Bargain!

Here's the actual jet:

Maybe there'll be some used 60s on the market once I've made my fortune.

....but that's a whole new level of operating costs.:D

One of the hangars in Las Cruces had its doors open one day and as I was walking by I happened to notice a new Cessna, Ford GT and an 80s Porsche (great condition). Obviously, they pale in comparison to the Harrier...

I'll give you the Cessna and the Porsche, but a Ford GT does not pale in comparison to the Harrier.

I am a Ford guy and I do hold the GT in high regards but I think a jet and hovering outdo it. Of course, I've never driven/flown either.

Of course one's a jet and one's a car so it's not exactly a direct comparison. But... the acceleration is about the same, the GT has the higher ground speed, and I can't valet park my Harrier at the Hard Rock in Vegas.

Cheers,
Waldo

Yep, they wouldn't like you burning holes through their asphalt, but would you trust it to a valet who might just take it for a joy ride?

Well, Sir, I don't know much about you, but I think I can safely say that you are at least wearing oak leaves - probably silver ones at that.:D
