Thanks for the input guys... it's all good to know.

I have some insoles that I use now. I never really had a shin splint problem in the past, but I guess not running for a few years can do that to you. I suppose I will use the sleeves for a few weeks running now, and ease my way off them a month before OCS.

let this be a notice to all. If you are CONSIDERING OCS, start running now to build up your legs instead of worrying about getitng shin splints in OCS. I got horrible shin splints when I started running, luckily it was over several months before I reported. I got there and had no issues.

Quick question about what happens after OCS:

From what i have read lately, it seems after OCS sna's have about 6 months of downtime to class up. In between schools (ex: IFS, API, Primary) do officers get paid? Six months of waiting to class up for A-pool and getting paid to boot seems highly unlikely to me, but i figured you guys would know.

Also just to double check, After OCS, the pipeline for SNA's is IFS>API>Primary?

Yep, you still get paid. Easiest money you will ever make. Paid as an O-1 and not doing shit for it.

It's only a couple months to get to IFS once you report in. And you have to report in to NASP within two weeks of graduating OCS.

Actually the easiest money I will ever make is getting paid E3 while doing literally nothing for the Navy for a year before I am going to OCS :)

Wait until you make it through OCS before you make that claim. You just may be a BM3 chipping paint if you're not careful...

As far as the current wait on API, I'll defer to someone who's over there. As far as stash jobs go, you can volunteer for them, or you can be voluntold. Sometimes its better to volunteer for a not so bad job, rather than hold out and get stuck with a really bad one. However, if there are 400 people in the pool, you may want to hold out and take your chances. You have to ask yourself, "do ya feel lucky?".

For things to bring to ocs, is it alright if the white socks have grey toes and/or heels?


Everything I have read indicates that as long as there are no colors/markings showing when shoes are on, they should be fine. You would obviously not use these for inspection though. I have yet to go through OCS so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

While on the subject, does anyone know of a good place to get plain white calf socks made of a good running material (nylon, etc.) without colors/markings?

yea no one cares what your socks look like as long as they're white when you have your shoes on.

as an added bonus, write your name on them somewhere. i used the provided stencil kit to mark the arch with my name as a practice for marking the RLP stuff. actually i still use these same socks with my flight boots :)

i found good running calf socks at an actual running store, so check to see if you have one locally.
