Oregon Aero liner vs. Gentex X-Liner

Ok, since I left my last squadron just after the mass Oregon Areo order was made but before they came in, I got to miss out on having my helmet retrofitted. Since then Gentex has come out with the new X-Liner that is supposed to be cooler, non-hotspot, non-rolling, etc. liner that is also anti-stank due to its addition of silver threading (like new socks have).

As I'm about to reenter the operational world after 3 yrs on a desk, my question is does anyone have the new Gentex liner (NOT the standard bubble crap)? This isn't intended to devolve into the "Oregon Aero is great" thread, since that's been done here already. Either you have the "new" Gentex liner or not. Thanks.

Got it, love it, end of story as far as I'm concerned.

First I have heard of this new liner, more details would be appreciated since my current liner has a bit of residual stink no matter how much I wash it.

NSN, open purchase or out of pocket for you Brett?

It was standard for everyone - came with the NVG upgrade.

Looking at the website, I couldn't find a price list. Considering there's no way in H-E-double hockey sticks my flight-e guys would purchase those, I may have to pay out of pocket. The bubble wrap SUCKS! I get a headache EVERY time I fly. Originally thought it was the noise (can't wear earplugs), but after using the CEP's for my last few flights, it has to be the helmet.

Our Flight E open purchased Zeta liners for all aircrew which shocked the hell out of me. %100 better than the bubble wrap stuff.

Dude... even -203 issued that stuff if you asked for it.

Yeah, all I could find was the contact info too. They do say "commercially available," but the contact info is for gov't sales. WTF? I can see any individual sale quickly turning into "For you, best price my friend, best price" if any of us were to ask. May bite the bullet anyway and write 'em a note. The bubble wrap beats the days of poured, form-fit helmets that required hammers (seriously) to pound out the hotspots; but in my old age I'm becoming more accustomed to comfort.

I got the CEP's there. You told me YOU had to buy your helmet liner! I got the new ear cups, but I'll swing by next week and see if a little bribery will work.

I was the PR divo and the limiting factor was 7F (I think) funding. We are usually out of $$ by the 3rd week of the quarter, so it is hard to get upgrades.

Not sure how they determine our budgets, but 90 Pilots/Aircrew are not cheap to outfit. My HS buddies had a bit more "free" cash I think, but they take PRs on cruise and can fix a lot of crap we have to just 1 for 1 replace.

I have a Zeta, and it rocks, but it is getting a tad worn out, since it is 2 years old. I might try this new one if PR1 had the funds on 01OCT.

No no no... I told you I had to buy my liner b/c when I was in primary, the primary PRs would not order them for students.

X Liners

Cost $44.98 + S/H about 1/2 the price of a zetaliner
Two sizes per size helmet.
You need to say helmet type to get the right one for your helmet.
Gentex sales 570-282-8505
I have never used the X liner for my aircrew, always the zetaliners but Quinn at Gentex says "everyone that tries on the X liner won't give it back".
Gentex says the NSN is in the system but we here are having trouble finding it.

Haven't seen any movement on this thread for a while. I've had the zeta liner for some time now and find it pretty comfortable (maybe a tad warm). Is the xliner worth the upgrade? Has anyone noticed any significant differences? How does the x do with goggles?

Thanks.

+1 on the Zeta liner. I've gotten my hands on an X liner at my swim-Flight phys requal, but didn't get it in a helmet on my head. just played a round with the liner itself. Felt OK. Not sure how much cooler it would be, and kind of like having an even surface.

Zeta liner = AWESOME. Head does much better without the bubble wrap. Sure it can get hot during the summer days, but I always use a skullcap to soak up the head-soup.
