You sign a waiver if you're under 136 pounds, or over 200-something. I was a strapping 130 as an Ensign, and still got to fly T-45s and Prowlers. Of course, the beer has caught up with me since and I'm now in standards for the seat. :)

Have a couple of these nights? ;)

Okay so this thread may be long dead, but here goes.
I am 61.75" tall and 108 lbs, and I've been taking my anthro measurements myself because I don't think I'll fit. According to my tape measure...
Sitting height: 30.5"
Sitting eye height (by formula SH-4.5")=26"
Thumb-tip reach: AT MOST 25" (taken from back of shoulder to tip of thumb, is this correct?)
BKL: ~22"
Am I totally freaking screwed?

Did you read this thread?

Yeah I did, was just curious if there was any new information. My recruiter told me today that they no longer take these measurements at all. Is he totally full of it? It seems weird to me that they would suddenly stop needing to measure people. Anyone know what happens if you get there and don't fit any pipeline due to anthro? Redisignated or do you get out of the navy?

Don't do that. There's only one person that can take those measurements officially and they work at the API building in Pensacola. There might even be a little sorcery involved, black magic at the very least.

I've known smaller gals in E/P-3's.

Recruiters used to have to take preliminary measurements, there was this weird contraption thing, it wasn't specific to any platform but covered all from the smallest minimum to the largest maximum, I had heard it was so if there was a person that was below or above the limit they could get further info, I don't think we ever saw a case where a person was outside the limits.

My recruiter took my measurements. We did not have a contraption and I was measured by hand with tape measure used by tailors. He has this sheet of paper which was submitted with my package that had a human silhouette picture you usually see at the docs office and lines to write information in accordance to which area was measured. It was a bit odd, because the OR seemed unsure how the best way to measure. Either that or he does not regularly get applicants applying for pilot/nfo positions. It was agreed that I would end up sitting on a table for doing sitting measurements.

hello,

I'm finishing up my last year of NROTC and was really hoping to join the aviation community and fly helos. I'm submitting my preferences at the end of this summer.

I'm a 5'2 female, weight 130lbs, and am just now finding out that there is more to this than just meeting that minimum height requirement and am worried about being disqualified not only from helos but seemingly most aircraft.

Can anyone speak to their experience of knowing 5'2 pilots of any aircraft? what about NFO? Is there some sort of resource where I could take my own measurements rather than finding out in 2 years when I'm already in Pensacola?

Thanks in advance

I'm an SNFO, exactly your size. The only platform I got disqualified from was pilot for the E-2/C-2. It depends on specific measurements like your sitting height and butt to knee length, but I'm proof that short girls can make it through.

but you must also meet the other anthro requirements for specific aircraft.

Check out this thread.

How come Tom Cruise didn’t have any 5’2” 230 pound women (or guys) in his airplane movie?
